This year we rang in the new year with a roaring fire, lots of food, games, family, and fun. I completely shocked myself and let the kids stay up until midnight (since it was the first year that we had company-our moms and Todd's sis and her family- at our appetizer party). I may have lost my mind. Shortly after the ball dropped we said goodbye to our guests and put the kids to bed. I don't think our kiddos realized how exhausted they were until the house quieted down. Tommy immediately started bawling his little golden-haired head off and when I asked him why he was crying he said, "I really miss 2012!"
Yes, 2012 was a fairly good year for our family. I am hoping that 2013 will go just as smoothly, with maybe a little less medical intervention (broken leg, eye surgery, etc). All in all we can't complain.
Our world, however, is in great need of healing. Our world suffered in 2012.
With the start of a new year it always feels like a fresh start in life. But I think we all need to be reminded that each day, each hour, each minute can be a fresh start. We don't need to wait for a new year to change our lives. If we want to be better, if we want to make changes, if we want to live more peacefully there is no time like the present. Don't wait. The time is now. Each moment is an opportunity to begin again. A fresh start.
God Bless you all in this new year, and always.

No better way to spend New Year's Eve... the fire, the food, and family.
The way the world is now is scary and we do need a change. I hope 2013 can find peace and happiness for us all.
Thank you Kat for being so kind. I hope this year has much joy (less medical interruptions) for you and your family
Happy New Year to you Kat! I love that sunset photo...gorgeous. These are good words to remember. There's no time like the present to make a change for the better.
How cute with your son and his missing 2012 comment! I can only hope that he will have a great 2013 in the days ahead!
So agree that we need more compassion, love and definitely Jesus in our world and we need to be the people that it all starts with, one person at a time; very good advice!
May you all have a wonderful new year!
betty
Happy 2013! Sledding looked like lots of fun...we have to do that yet...it's been SO cold! We took the kids to Blue Harbor yesterday afternoon for the first time and had a blast. Wishes for a wonderful New Year:)
New Year's Eve here was just me and the two young grandkids -who had talked a good game about wanting to stay up and watch the ball drop but both of them folded up by 10 p.m. I even woke each of them up just before midnight to ask if they wanted to get up and watch the ball. Maya told me quite politely "No, thank you." Kurtis -eyes still tightly closed -nodded his head vigorously that he wanted to get up but that was as far as it went.
Now -the rest of your post -very well put, Kat! To be honest, I don't think it would take anything exactly earth-shatteringly large to see changes come about if each person would just try to live each day with positive energies and love towards family, friends and everyone around us and world-wide too. Just a small change in attitude -showing love and appreciation for all we have -could surely go a long, long way and definitely isn't that hard for each of us to do either. Remember -"Let it begin with me!"
I was thinking along the same lines this new years eve... I've been trying to think of some ways that we can contribute to a kinder more loving community in our little corner of the world.
What a great way to ring in the new year!
And yes, definitely some more kindness and healing are in order.
I do NOT miss 2012 - not one bit! lol
I love the pics, especially that last one - gorgeous. Love the new header too!
beautiful words Kat, agreed with all.
