The other day I brought Ben in the basement with me to get the laundry out of the dryer. As I was filling my basket I noticed Ben had snuck back upstairs. By the time I got all the laundry into the basket and another load started in the washer and another in the dryer Ben had already gotten into trouble. I heard the boys yelling, "MOM!!! Ben made a HUGE mess!" I ran upstairs with my basket and rounded the corner to the kitchen. ACK!!!! Ben had somehow managed to open the child safety lock on the kitchen cabinet doors and he pulled out my Comet (the powder kind) and dumped the entire container all over his head, clothes, legs, arms, and all over my freshly cleaned hardwood floors. I freaked! What if he got it in his eyes???? The laundry basket went flying as I dove for him grabbing the Comet out of his hands and began the careful clean up.
Remember how I was telling you I just had the carpets cleaned? I don't know where Ben got it but he found some lotion and began rubbing it all over his legs, arms, THE CARPET, his clothes. I just about crapped my pants. Why does this always happen after a major cleaning?
I swear I don't leave Ben unattended for long periods of time. I'm not taking showers while he has the rule of the roost. Heck I don't even go to the bathroom without dragging him along. It just seems that the one second I'm not looking he manages to cause complete mayhem.
There are so many stories of Ben pulling coffee grinds and potato peels out of the garbage that I won't even go in to detail. Suffice to say, the kid has become a handful.
Normally I am so freaked by the mess I obviously don't think about snapping a picture. But because this mess was somewhat contained I thought I would show you proof. And as I keep telling him, he is lucky he is so cute.
Lately it seems I can't take my eyes off of Ben for more than 30 seconds or something in the house will be destroyed. I used to brag about him being my laid back kid, but I don't really know if I can say that anymore. I've never had this much trouble with the other two boys destroying my house. But Ben? He is taking it to a whole new level.

eeeeekkkkk.....he sounds like my nephew. he is always looking for something to get into. good luck!
happy PSF!
Good thing he's so cute, huh?
PS - Love the new look.....I may have to get to work on my place!
Comet???? Seriously?? Oh geesh! My first little guy was so good he never got into anything! I am totally scared for my second little guy. He already likes to get into everything. How old is Ben? He is a super cutie!
First of all-- your template is gorgeous!! I love it.
Second, being a mom is a wild ride, huh? Thank goodness kids clean up--the bathtub has become my new best friend, except when they're pouring the water out onto the floor.
Cute PSF!
Now I can reciprocate to YOU. Ha, you and me BOTH! What a doll.
And I DIG the new DIGGS!
Oh my goodness! I have 2 little boys (and one daughter) and my boys are always getting into things, especially my 3 year old. He would totally get into my comet (I am moving it up right after this!) And you are right - it alwyas seems to happen right after the house has been put in order! Hang in there!! My 5 year old seems to have outgrown the naughtiness! :)
Oy...trouble!
Are he and my Izzy related? She put A&D ointment all over herself and her room and is constantly getting into trouble here and there!
This always happens when you get the carpets cleaned. Man. That stinks.
Yikes! That Comet sounds like one heck of a mess. But at least the milk wasn't too bad.
His expression is priceless!
I can most definitely relate to your dilemma! My kids used to do things like that and the two little grandkids here now -if they get quiet, it's time to start looking for the disaster. Although, yesterday, I got a phone call, was trying to make sense of what the caller was saying and right in front of my eyes and before I could grab the jar of hot red pepper flakes from her, Maya had dumped them into a Dixie cup, had it overflowing all over the kitchen island and the floor too! I have no clue what her intent was in that trick! Anything at all left on the bathroom vanity is usually sure game for her to pick up, almost always it ends up smeared in her hair or spilled all over the bathroom floor. Never a dull moment, huh?
hhaaaaaaaaa!!! We are currently looking to buy a house, and one of the first things we want is to get rid of ALL carpet. I feel your pain...carpet seems high maintn. with 3 kiddos. CUTE PIC!!
Goodness gracious I have a Ben just like him! Mine is now 6'2" and 16 years old, but it's funny, he is now the neatest person in the whole house! I hate to tell you--and this probably won't happen to your little Ben--but mine traded messiness around 4 yrs. old for being accident prone.
And this morning we spent a couple hours at the doctors getting stitches. (For the fourth time in his life.)
He's a wonderful little (well big, now) boy, but he keeps me on my toes!
And thanks for your sweet note on my blog today!
A big hug to you!
Becky
Is this a boy thing? My son has a sense of where he can get the dirtiest and makes a bee line for it. I just don't understand it.
Comet!?! Ay-yi-yi!
I swear they're extra cute at this age for a reason :)
Great story and photo! No use cryin' over spilt milk, right?
Oh he is a cutie isn't he??? It would be hard to stay mad at that sweet little face.
But boy oh boy, is he ever fast!!!!
Very cute template, love it!!
COOL template girl! Ben sounds like
Ally, yup that was my Ally! Even
that look he has in the high chair
is Ally. They grow up, but I'll bet
he's going to be the active boy of
the three boys. The comet would scare
me too!!!!! I have shivers!
i have 3 all like your Ben and you have my sympathy. i've saved the bills for some of their damages for when they're older--so they know that the stories i tell them about their childhood are NOT made up or invented. i'm not hostile about it, just looking forward to seeing the humor of it all ...someday.
(also, lucky to have cute kids like you do!)
OH man! Sounds like my life... in a nutshell. sigh.
Oh wow! He's so darn cute though. ;) That Comet mess must have been a bit scary...glad he's o.k. My son is a little mess maker to.
Yeah, we recently had the baking powder incident at our house (all over the kitchen floor). G LOVES to get into the pantry and that was a on a very accessible shelf for him. I am starting to feel this way with him too.
This too shall pass, right?
I think my Aiden and your Ben would get along just fine!! :)
That would be hard! At least he is adorable. Maybe you could convince him to play dungeon when Mommy has to do laundry--put the pack and play on top of him. ;-)
You're new design is awesome. I'm so jealous!
Yep, with those eyes your in for trouble....he would be impossible to get mad at!
It's a good thing he is so stinkin' cute! My second was so much that way. My third is starting to be that way too. In fact, I hear him in the fridge right now.....gotta go!
Oh my. Yep, I agree with all on the cuteness as a means of survival. He really is adorable and smoochable. ;)
One of the things I hate most about having children is baby proofing the house. I tried to tell my wife that Darwin wouldn't do it, but she still hands me the locks to the cabinets and a screwdriver. Kids sure get into a lot of stuff.
YES! Someone else has one too. Very cute photo.
That's the most fun right? Little mischievous buggers?
At least that's what I tell myself...
Look at those eyes. Who could stay mad for long?
He is AWFUL cute - HA!
He's a handful - that's for sure!
Have a good weekend - Kellan
My Noah is the same way! I swear that child is turning me gray! It must be a third born boy thing...
oh man i feel your pain and frustration. i remember my oldest getting int a brand new container of petroleum jelly and smearing it all over a wall and her body (head to toe...she was combing it through her hair). this was when we lived overseas and though we had running water we did not have HOT water. ugh.
i feel for you.
My nephew is like that my sister can turn her back for one sec and there'll be crayon on the floor or he'll scale a wall/table in 0.2 secs and there are those times he strips and runs around like a streaker at a soccer match.
Awww... but he's so cute he probably gets away with some of it right? I know Logan does.
There has to be at least one who keeps you on your toes!
Every family gets one! (Some of us lucky ones get two!) I trust the boy, the floor , and the mamma survived it all? Now, did he take the milk "Bath" after the comet exfoliation? Is this the Seeking Sanity Spa for young men? (Oh wait, maybe it's mom that needs the spa treatment now.) take care of yourself, too. I'm beyond this stage, but remember it ALL TOO WELL! You survive, BUT YOU ARE NEVER THE SAME. ; ) Happy Weekend!
p.s.
I removed those annoying letters on my comment form. I'm really gettin' it with this blogger thing!! ; )
Okay, that is like a day in my house with my 2 1/2 year old - I cannot leave him alone for even thirty seconds right now - It doesn't help that we are still unpacking the house, so there is more to get into, but his is having a field day!
And, he too, has that very cute look on his face afterward!
Only one of yours acts this way? So there is a possibility if I have another it won't be like this? I have this problem on a daily basis, Kathryn. He's into everything. Everything is a mess. I'm looking forward to school primarily for the ability to clean up once in a while.
Dear Kathryn,
I love the new look...
your Ben is a super cutie..
my days are not different..from 6.30am to 9.00 pm my little one keep me on my toes.. no break.. :))
have a good weekend..
♥

Ohhhhhh. I am so glad mine is not a big mess maker (at least not at this point)! What a cute picture, though!
gee, i leave for a week and you change the look of your blog (so cute!) and apparently the color of your hair? ;) at least the boys are still impishly adorable!
He sounds so much like my little guy! For a while, I couldn't turn my back on him for a second. He's growing out of some of it though so it does get better.
OH I have stories of my 3rd child too. He was the best laid back baby and then toddlerhood came and he was my biggest mess maker. We'll have to see if number 4 will be worse, I sure hope not! I like your new profile picture, btw!
Could this be the start of what's to come!! Great picture.
CJ xx
Cute--from a distance.
PS - LOVE your new picture! What a beauty you are, my dear!
wow... and you still had the presence of mind to snap a picture afterwards. That is very impressive.
seriously...it's such a good thing he's cute or you'd have to send him to live with my kids in the junk yard!!
xo
Yeah, there is no turning around in this house...I feel your pain;)
LOL! Sounds like ALL 3 of mine! What one doesn't think of the other one does. Never a dull moment here!
I think there's a rule about that or something. Oh you just cleaned your carpet? too bad! lol
PS--your new profile picture looks GREAT! so tan :)
He and my 15 month old daughter are MADE for each other!!!! She is in a destruction phase too...at least I HOPE its just a phase!
GREAT shots!! So glad you PSFed with us!!!!!
Are you sure he doesn't belong to me?
He sounds exactly like my children.
Exactly.
And I tell my children the same thing...
"If you weren't so cute, I would beat you." (not really)
or
"If you weren't so cute, I would sell you on Ebay."
Gotta love them.
And thank goodness for the cuteness factor.
That angel face? Nahhhhhhhh! ;)
