It Was A Long Ride Home

Yesterday was a tough day. Not only was the temperature at 1 degree, the Packers' performance was dismal at best, Todd had caught Tommy's achy vomit bug, and I had the worst cramps of my life (my first period in almost two years decided to show up yesterday-TMI, I know, but oh well) beat out only by child birth.

Still we were determined to have a good time. We were lucky enough to find prime seats in a little restaurant in the atrium at the stadium and watched the Patriots/Chargers game before the Packers game started. It was warm and cozy, and everyone was in a good mood. That was probably the best we felt for the rest of the day.

I won't bore with all the sad details of the game. Either you watched it and saw how flat the Packers played, or you didn't, and you lucked out. But I will tell you that I am still very proud of my Packers for making it this far. They had a bad game yesterday, and that is all there is to it. We were outplayed by the Giants who obviously wanted it more. The Giants fans were respectful and friendly, and I will definitely be rooting for them when they take on the Patriots and that annoying Tom Brady in the Superbowl. Go Giants!

Without further ado, I give you the nominations for the Best Packer Fan of the Year!

The first nominee is Kathryn. Anyone who endures a 1 degree temperature with horrible cramps and hot flashes deserves a slight nod. She sweat through the majority of the game until late in the third quarter when she realized she couldn't feel her toes. Add to that the fact that later that night when she got home she threw up because the crampy pain was so bad and you can see she is a devoted fan.

The second nominee is Todd. Even though he was holding back his vomit, his back felt achy and broken, and he had the chills on top of the plummeting temps, he managed to smile and cheer for his team. Well, except for in this pic.

The third nominee is Florida Girl. She and her boyfriend made the long trip all the way from Florida to see their beloved team. However, she was so cold she could barely look up from her scarf most of the time. No one even saw her face except for when she was able to squeak out, "Everyone tells you how cold it is. They tried to warn us. But nothing can prepare you for this. This is crazy."
The fourth and final nominee is Packer Elvis. He has been at every Packer game since, I don't know, Elvis? Just walking through the parking lot he was swamped by Packer fans (including our first nominee) who wanted a pic with him. He was gracious enough to take photos and then had his bodyguards turn people away.
So my dear readers, who shall it be? Who wins the coveted award? Go to the poll on the side of my blog and cast your vote.
The nominations are in participation with Monday Missions, sponsored by Painted Maypole.

i hope you are feeling better today. blech. and I could not vote for elvis, because clearly he does it a bit for his own fame, you know. so you get my vote. although Florida girl and Todd were close seconds.

I voted for Florida girl - I just couldn't help myself. But - you are a trooper for sure and I love the pictures. It is one for the memory books, I guess. I'm glad you got to experience it - I don't think I could have braved that cold for that long. Take care and I'll see you soon. Kellan

I voted for your hubby, cause nobody else had. Although you all deserve a nod for braving that, going into OT and still coming out saying how great the team is. My 2nd favorite team certainly has the best fans. You forgot to add in Mama Geek, who also was there.

Thanks for your condolences, everyone! That is very sweet of you. I voted for Florida Girl because I seriously felt so bad for her the whole time. Here I'm sweating my butt off and she could barely move. I kept offering her my hat, scarves, mittens, hand warmers, but she already had those. I went into the bathroom right before half time and she was just sitting on the floor. :(
AFF- Thanks for voting for the hubby. He was actually starting to feel left out. I kid not.
I didn't see MamaGeek there. It is hard to find someone you've never seen before. HA! Did you spot her on tv?

I was totally thinking about you all day long yesterday. We were watching the game, us the ex-Milwaukeens, and discussing just how cold it really was out there. Brrrrr...

You win!

I really wanted to vote for Todd-- can't say that I would've been such a trouper under the circumstances, and of course you deserve a HUGE trophy for just having to endure being a woman (if I could stay pregnant forever--and not end up with more kidzillas--I would, just to avoid...), BUT, sitting here, freezing to death in my own drafty compy-uter room while the rain continues to fall, my symp--I mean vote went to the Florida girl.
Maybe next year!

Packer Elvis! Dude! I met him YEARS ago when I was in Green Bay setting up a new Stein Mart. He da man.

I'm sad with you today. At this point it's either the Devil's team winning the SuperBowl, or a Manning. I don't like either option. I'll go for ignoring football until at least September.

My vote is for all of the above. Anyone willing to endure the weather yesterday is a strong person in my opinion. I didn't even want to go from car to house.

I thought about you this weekend when I was skiing. I thought I was cold, and then I thought about what you said the temperature was expected to be at the Packers game- yikes that's cold!

I've been too depressed to blog. They just got outplayed, I just wish it didn't end like that with OT and on Favre's interception.

DANG! But you're right. Twas fun!

BTW, I love Big Head Todd - your music. I think I puffy heart you.

I totally feel for you--In more ways than one. I mean, they were talking on ESPN that one of the coach's face froze! Ugh! And the loss . . . heartbreaking, but it is great that they still have fans who are proud of 'em! Way to go!

Oh my gosh you all win...that is crazy wild, but quite the experience I think!

Sorry they didn't make it worth your while, though.

You are a much braver woman than me!! 1 degree and you are outside...with cramps- I am in awe! My vote goes to you! Sorry about the game- I did watch it and actually thought to myself- Wow- those are some dedicated fans...or crazy! :)

Man it looked cold out there...It was a great game, up until the end. Boo hiss! Now I'm off to vote!

Sarah said... poor thing! Isn't it sad...I live in Wisconsin and I'm not even a Packer's fan. Mostly just because I don't watch football. By the way, you get my vote!

how are you guys feeling today?

Sandy C. said...

Aww....What a trooper you all are for enduring that weather! Hope you're feeling better today. Whoa @ getting your period that day!

I can't decide between you and the poor Florida girl. I'm a native Floridian and just moved to the Northeast ...i feel her pain!

I watched the game and thought of you (and MamaGeek) who were totally freezing your butts off and totally disappointed.

But you had fun, right? I mean aside from the cramps and the puking and the cold and the losing and oh wait, I'll shut up now. :)

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
