The Grumpous Gets a Lovely Award

What do you do all day when school is cancelled because of the cold, you already baked cookies, and read books, and you are housebound with three rambunctious boys? Well, you watch them bounce balls all over the kitchen for a good hour,

play with their Hot Wheels in the sunroom for another hour,

and then find a warm spot to sit, and watch too much crazy television.
I want to know what kind of drugs people are on when they write childrens' television shows. Some of the shows are clever and funny. But those shows are becoming fewer and fewer. Most of the shows are like the one we stumbled upon yesterday. Yo Gabba Gabba. Have you seen it? It is the craziest thing I've ever seen. I can't stand it. My boys don't even like it, thank heavens. I think it insults their intelligence. After about 3 minutes we just had to turn the channel. Before I could grab the controller this woman came on and did an odd little dance.Tommy looked over at me and said, "Mumma, WHAT is she wearing? What is she THINKING?"  I had such a hard time not laughing because I was thinking the same thing. Seriously, look at that! Do you see the long fringes hanging from her arms? And really, I know I'm being not-so-nice here, but I just don't get it. Why? WHY, would someone think that is a good idea. The only thing I could think of to say to Tommy was, "Well, honey, I wouldn't wear it, but she looks like she is having fun, right?"

Gulp.

Luckily, my freezing cold day was ended with warm fuzzies sent to me by OhMommy at Classy Chaos. She gave me The Spreader of Love Award! Thank you so much!!!! I want to give it right back to her because she is one of my favorite reads and she really does spread the love. I also want to pass it on to Brittany at 4LittleMen who spreads the love through her gorgeous pictures and fabulous, healthy recipes. Please go and check out her blog. It's fabulous!
*******************************************************************

After I read this whole post I realize how grumpy I sound. I apologize. I think all of this cold weather is starting to shrink my heart. I promise I will be back to my "love spreading" ways as soon as the thermometer makes it over 10 degrees. And to make up for this grumpous post I will leave you with this amusing little story:

The other night Todd and Joey are sitting on the chair together reading the newspaper. Todd gets to the advertisements and begins looking at the Sears catalog. Todd and Joey are flipping through, talking about the big tractors, the power tools, and the big screen televisions. Then they got to the clothing sections, and Todd starts turning faster out of boredom when I hear, "Wait dad! I like THAT girl."  Todd looks up at me with a quizzical look on his face and turns the Sears catalog towards me. What girl does he like? Why, the girl standing in nothing but her underwear modeling lingerie, of course. Great. I am at a loss. How is this possible? He isn't even 5 yet! Do I really need to start hiding my Victoria's Secret magazines already?
I look at Joey and ask, "Why do you like that girl?"

He says, "I don't know. I just do."  Ha! That's probably what most men would say. "I dunno."

I say, "Well, don't you think she is kinda silly to be standing around in her underwear? I mean, don't you think she is cold? Maybe she should put a sweater and some pants on, huh?"

Joey just shrugs his shoulders and says, "Yeah, I guess. She is probably cold."

~Sigh~

Oh dear! That story about Joey and the girl... Watch out mama! haha.

Ok...Yo Gaba Gaba. We, too, loathe this show. I don't know what the writers are smoking, but it has to be something containing hallucinates! Adam will watch it, but.... he tends to look at me every so often and say "what they doin' mom?" hahah.

COLD COLD COLD! It's COLD here too! I am SO READY FOR SPRING!! AHH! Keep warm :)

Oh you! You sound uynderstandably stir crazy, not cranky! I was LOL in a crying with you sort of way.

My best investment? The indoor mini-trampoline.

When the dog gets crazy---every time the doorbell rings, or anyone comes near our house---I've trained him to get his bone. It soothes his nerves.

When the kids get the willies, I've trained them to jump it out on the trampoline. It soothes my nerves.

;)

And HA HA HA about your precocious son!

Those are gorgeous pics!

I think I am one of the few people who like Yo Gabba Gabba. My kids do, too, but then, we're an odd group. :) But you had to admit, it did make you laugh! hahaha

Who hasn't played with a bouncy ball for hours? My kids did that yesterday morning - so much fun! We had no power. And my camera battery was dead. Uggg. Cute pictures of your hansome fellas.

My son - now six - has also discovered that lovely ladies sometimes wear underwear and NOTHING ELSE in the catalog. This was apparently a fascinating and yet disconcerting discovery.
Freaking snow days! WE HAVE HAD TEN OF THEM THIS WINTER! TEN!

1) your boys are really cute, I love the pic of the baby sitting next to the heat register.
2) I never heard of Yo Gabba Gabba, but I will steer clear of it. We like the shows on Noggin, our favorite is Jack's Big Music Show.

Yikes about the catalog.

I haven't watched Yo Gabba Gabba, but I know my kids have played the online game about it. Yikes again.

AWWWW.... thank you so much! You put a smile on my face.

The boys look like they're having a blast playing and oh boy... the last picture. That is too cute. Oh boys! What are we going to do??

Ashley said...

Wow...I wanna be nice like you...lol If it were my kid making remarks about what that lady was wearing on Yo Gabba Gabba, I think I would've not been able to NOT laugh! That is hilarious! It's not really HER fault...they tell her what to wear.

You go mama!

Two cute posts :)

Btw I've never heard of Yo Gabba Gabba...it doesn't even look good...

I found out about Yo Gabba Gabba because it's regularly made fun of on a show called "Talk Soup". Hope it warms up soon for you.

I have never seen this Gabba Gabba thing you speak of, and after seeing that photo, I plan to keep it that way. That lady makes Dora look like a fashion do.

Congrats on the award!

Oh that's funny. So, umm, what IS that girl wearing? Your 3 boys are just SO CUTE. And so easily entertained. I'm jealous!

Yo Gabba Gabba, sounds like a
rapper song to me. HaHa! I suppose
it's produced in England, like
the Teletubbies. Oh MY!
I like the new backround and the picture of da Marsh!?

I love that he's already into girls. Sigh. Mine's gonna be there soon, too. And, you are allowed to be tired of the cold. It's normal. I agree. There is LOTS of tv that insults the kids' intellect. I hate Yo Gabba Gabba. It scares me.

I must be thicker than I thought... I did NOT catch the grumpy tone at all. Maybe it was because I was in awe of your beautiful clean floors while THREE boys (+1husband) live in your house!
You deserve that award and many others.
Have a great day, January is almost over :-)

Thank you for the delightfully kind comment on my blog. It's nice to "meet" you too!

I just came over from Kellan's blog and we had a snow day from school this week. Too much t.v. here too, but my boys are really into Mythbusters. The problem is that they then want to blow things up! Love your blog!

Oh the first time I saw Yo Gabba Gabba, all I could think was it was the Teletubbies all over again. It is very disturbing some of the children's programming out there!
Your boys are precious! Hope it warms up for you soon!

You didn't like my outfit? Awww, I worked hard putting that together! Jennifer

Found your site through Kellan. My son Jack started staring at girls when he was 2! If they were teens and had long blond hair, he wanted to marry them. He told them that, too.

I love the pictures of your boys playing cars in the kitchen. When they grow up you will have some wonderful friends. It might seem like a long time from now, but ... I'm sure you've heard.... it goes by fast. I know some days go slow, but the years slip by.

I am FINALLY getting around to reading posts left from Friday Forum. I blame the paint fumes! :)

I LOVE the burnt orange color! It looks fabulous, and maybe next go round, when I forget how long it takes to paint around everything in the kitchen, I will do your color!

Very cool! And thanks so much all of the help in the color choices. :)

Happy Wednesday!

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.
