Laughter Is Good For The Soul

Sometimes the grief hits days later, as I am finding out.

As soon as the activity of the past busy week began to die down the mourning process began. I am not depressed and woeful all the time, but I find myself shedding tears easily and often.

It makes me especially grateful when I'm given a little tidbit like this that makes me laugh:

I was explaining to the boys, once again, that it is okay to be sad for us because we will miss grandpa, but that we can also be happy for grandpa that he is in such a wonderful place feeling so happy and free. I told them how I pictured grandpa watching over us and keeping us safe like St. Michael the Archangel, and how grandpa would always be with us. Every party we have he will be there. Every time we are afraid he will be there. He will always be watching over us.

I thought I had sufficiently explained and comforted the boys until Joey looked at me and said, "Um... mom? Does that mean Michael Jackson is watching over us too?"

Now that would scare the heck out of me!

Sorry you're blue--I'm sure it's unavoidable. It sounds like your dad was one heck of a guy. Take care of yourself--be good to yourself.

Don't you love kids' minds?

It's been nearly 12 years since my dad died and I always find comfort thinking that he's watching over me and cheering me on.

Alright, I didn't expect that last part. I had to giggle out loud at that.

I hope the healing process goes smoothly for you. It's never an easy thing to lose someone...

That's funny. Are you a little creeped out that MJ might be hovering around your house? LOL

Ha! Ha! That is awesome! It is a logical conclusion! I am glad you were able to get a laugh out of it.

Riahli- I told them that "NO", MJ is not watching over them (he better not be!) because MJ didn't know them. Grandpa watches over them because he knew them and loves them. That seemed to satisfy them. ;)

smart kid. Personally I think that heaven would not be heaven if we can see Earth. But heaven is awesome, read some of Rev23 and find out just how cool it is and then rejoice to know!
Kat, I am sorry that you are going through this now. You will miss your Dad. This baby is coming at a good time to bring new joy into your lives.
God knew all along and he planned it this way. To bring you joy.

Kids are AWESOME! They have an innate sense of timing (without realizing).

I can't count the number of times my children have saved me from despair.

Hang in there Kat.

Kat,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I know how special he was to you. I will be thinking of you and your family.

Kids are so helpful in times like these. They bring innocence and humor and sometimes that is all you need to get you through the day. =)

LOL You know whenever someone close to me dies I always think can they really watch over me? Usually these thoughts come when I'm in the shower, or picking a wedgie, or doing something else you try to do privately. It always makes me giggle. With death there has to be laughter or it would be so much harder to bare. Sorry for your loss!

Hehehe, glad there are some bits of laughter mixed in with the grief. I think it's the best way, really. It can be a long journey, and taking whatever breaks we can find is more than allowed, especially when it's something this funny!

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
