Days like these don't come along often. Snow days that cancel school, cancel work, and yet are warm enough to enjoy being outside, with all three boys healthy, are rare. And yesterday we took full advantage.
Todd and I took the boys sledding at
The Bowl for the first time ever. I was so impressed with how brave my normally cautious boys were jumping on their inner tubes and going down the hill by themselves right away. We had so much fun. We kept sledding and playing for two whole hours. It was a blast and I felt like a kid again. Todd and the boys practically had to drag me kicking and screaming to the car. I just didn't want to leave.
We even made it onto the
evening news! Check it out! That is Tommy and I going down the hill together. Then Todd in
camouflage pushing the boys down. Me being interviewed for a second, and then Tommy eating snow at the end.
Haha!
However, I did end up over-doing it. When I got home I got a migraine. Luckily it wasn't too bad and I was able to get rid of most of it while the boys were down for their naps. I was feeling well enough when they awoke that we rounded out our day with hot chocolate and baking cookies.
Some of my fondest memories as a kid are the cold Wisconsin winter days when my friends and I would walk down to The Bowl, go sledding all day, and come home and warm up to hot chocolate. Thinking back on those times makes me realize how magical childhood can be. Every experience is new and full of anticipation. And I hope that someday the boys will look back on this day, and their childhood, with warm memories of there own.
What are some of your fondest childhood memories?

First time visiting.
My boys would LOVE to do that. Actually, me too. It looks like sooo much of fun.
We never get know here :-(
now that was creating a wonderful memory!!
wow you're famous and on tv?! I'll check it out.
Your boys are SO incredibly lucky to have you as parents.
My fondest memories are making snow cream with my mom. I LOVE snow cream.
I'm glad you're feeling well enough to play!!
YOU even had a speaking part!! How cool is that?! ok, now I'll go away.
Wow. that looks like fun. My girls havent been sledding yet either. I should really get them a sled and some snow pants and boots on Thursday... And then go sledding..
I love this! It sounds like a great, relaxing time. =)
Wow! You're famous! In so many ways you're the mom I wish I was. That looks like it was so much fun.
Sorry for the migraine though.
Sounds like such a fun day!! :) School & WORK canceled? How fun!!
We used to walk to a road called "Hospital Hill" because it was near the hospital (how original) and it would blocked off so all the kids could sled! The other place was a dammed up side of a lake that made the most awesome sledding! It didn't snow much in Texas but when it did we took full advantage!
I love this reminder to get out and play with the kids once the snow starts falling here, thanks!
I love your interview! How cool is that?
I have fond memories of my dad pulling us down that streets that hadn't been cleared yet on an old fashioned sled. My mom would always have hot chocolate ready for us to thaw out our frozen fingers as we held the mugs!
Great shots...looks like a fun day!
Kat - you really are making great memories for your kids. What a great mom!
Wow, great pics!!! You're really making me miss the mountains (and my family). I grew up in FL so never had snow days. But moved to the mountains when I was 18....so I had enough of the snow to know how magical it can be this time of year. Now I'm back in Southeast GA, where it's been hovering at 80 degrees the last two days. I can't wait to get up to the mountains in a few weeks!!!!
OH, what a perfect day. I bet the boys were excited to make the news. And you were so cute!!!
Wow, what an awesome day! That is a lot of snow. Sledding is the only reason I wish we had snow here in Oklahoma.
I loved the news story. You guys are so cute!
When I was a child we made snowmen, went sledding and drank hot chocolate too.
I saw it last night...the news...I told my husband I think that is one of my blog buddies. How cool is that! Glad you had a great time yesterday.
Okay, now I feel like a total loser for being amazed/freaked out by our Texas "snow"! It looks like so much fun. What great memories your kids will have. And you're famous!
how fun. i'm so glad the whole family could enjoy it all together.
sorry about the headache but glad it wasn't too long lived.
my whole post today is about childhood memories of one particular place.
You looked so PRETTY in the interview! It was great!
How fun. Your boys will always remember that you got out there with them!
Becky
Snow! I am jealous. We don't have snow yet, but we are on the verge. Your little ones look like they are having a great time. Great post!
Happy WW and mine is finally up too :o)
What a fun day! ;) You're FAMOUS now!! How awesome to be on TV!
What a perfectly fun day!! My boys are excited to get enough snow to play in.
As a kid, we went to a park near out house that had a huge hill pefect for sledding. That was so much fun! Now we do that with our boys.
What fun! Looks like you had a blast! I wish we had a place like that near us- my boys would love it! Take care and stay warm (if that's possible!).

What fun! I'm glad y'all were able to enjoy the day.
Glad the migrane subsided, too. We made cookies last night as well..no hot chocolate, though.
I am ALL about your suggestion to swap houses for a month!!!! Head on down here to southeast Georgia (or the third level of hell!!!)
awesome -looks like so much fun!!!
You are famous! Glad you guys had fun :)
We used to have a huge hill across the street from my house where we'd sled when I was your boys' ages. They they "developed" the land and built 6 houses on it. But we still talk about Noisy Hill. I'd think about using that last photo as part of your Christmas card, even though they're not looking into the camera - they are absolutely adorable. And that picture of Ben in his coat is such a keeper!
Honestly? That sounds (and looks) like an absolute perfect day. I am totally jealous. We don't get any great winter days like that down here in Texas. Treasure them!
And what a way to end it with hot chocolate and cookies. Yum!
Hey, what is all that white stuff? Sledding... what's that? If only it WOULD snow down here. I'm still running around in shorts.
What a fun day!! I hope to make these memories myself with my kids someday! :-)
Sledding, and then warming up with hot cocoa are among my favorite childhood memories. You do such a great job at creating wonderful memories for your family. How fun to be on the news...for something good! ;)
We actually had some snow last night! But nothing like that, obviously!! How much fun - and look at you all famous on the news! HA!
My memories are of picking out our Christmas tree and decorating it and of baking of course. My mother and I always made cut-out cookies!
Speaking of snow days:
Any good snowmobiling trails around you? Last time we went, we went up to a friend's home in the UP, but they don't live there anymore so we are trying to find a new spot.
Here's to sledding, then warm cookies!!!!
Oooh! I "know" someone famous now! Can I sponge off of your inevitable fame and fortune, now?
BTW I loved that picture of your husband when he saw the shirts. :)
Oh what a fun family day! We keep meaning to take Lucy sledding, but everytime we get the energy to do it, it starts to get dark here! :) But seriously... you have a beautiful lovely family!
Looks like you all had a great time. Also looks like an AWESOME place to do some sledding. :) I used to love sledding at my friend's house. You could start up the hill from her house in the corn field, do a little hop into her yard and follow her yard down and then go down her lane. It was SUCH a long walk that you could only do it a couple times before you were so tired. So much fun though. :)
It'd be fun to live somewhere fun to say. *LOL* Don't mind me from York. ;) Sheboygan would be much more entertaining to share.
L♥ve the pictures! Thanks for sharing :) ♥ Hugs!
That is a good day we need some snow to do that.
You're so famous now...can I have your autograph?? ;-) That looks like SO much fun! And hot chocolate after a migraine - doesn't sound like it can get much better!
Glad you're feeling "okay" still!
Oh, what a perfect day. And more great pics! Meanwhile, it was fun to see you guys "live." Your speaking voice gives you away as a singer, btw. :-)
Hi,
I love the pictures..
Your blog is really interesting... Good Luck... You are welcomed to my blog…….
Wishing you in advance "A Merry X'Mas and A Happy New Year''
What a nice place to go sledding!!! I wish we had a place around here like that!
Did you say cookies? Yum, what kind you making for the holidays? And do you want to share the recipes?
Ah, snow days! I miss 'em! Looks like you all had a wonderful time!
Blessings!
To Ms. Kat
I have read some of your posts. I liked your writing style. I would like to revisit the same.
If you like short stories and paintings, then a short visit to my blogs would be a good idea.

What a simply perfect day - for sure!!! I'm very jealous of this day in the beautiful snow!!
Take care, Kat - see you soon - Kellan
i'm hoping to take MQ sledding when we are in MI after Xmas.
I loved digging out forts from the big piles of snow we made shoveling the driveway
Last time I sledded with my kids I broke my tailbone on the first downhill run! As I fought back the tears Rachel came running over to congratulate me on getting airborne! Mom that was so Cool! (I was dying of pain but smiling like crazy to be cool for all to see!) Two weeks in agony . . . but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I love snow, kids, and good clean fun! You're so great at lovin' your kids -- keep up the good work! : D
We have a local sledding hill, too. The whole town comes and has a blast! How great that you did that with your boys. Winter is here! Yay!
OMG what i would give to have just one day with that much snow. We have nto have that much snow since i was a kid and i would love for my kids to be able to play in it like i use to.
It looks like you guys had a blast. I love that you made the news. I watch channel 12 otherwise I probably would have seen you when it aired.
Oh what an awesome day!!! The bowl looks awesome for a snow day :) And what a wonderful way to end the day, cookies and hot chocolate. I just know your boys will hold these memories close in their hearts.
Dude, we were just ON that hill sledding this week. What a lovely day (and I checked out your interview - how cool is THAT).
Hope all is well Kat.
What fun!!
and you made the NEWS!!!! Cool! (ha! that was a funny remark. I crack myself up.)
Wow! Here in North Texas, we do not get that kind of snow. I'm SO jealous!
Snow days rock! Looks like you did make it a day to remember. Growing up in Chicago I have memories like that, too, and always with hot chocolate at the end.
Wow, those pictures make me miss Illinois so much! When can I come visit?! At the same time, I don't miss all of the crap that goes with it! Like haveing to have just the right temperature of water to thaw your door handle and windshield. I do miss the huge hill in my hometown park that I used to slide down as a little girl. Maybe some day I will be able to take my son there. he needs to know that water DOES turn into ice, sleet, snow and hail!
P.S. How are you feeling?
ahhhh.... me too! i love snow days! hoping for some this year. :)
