The Exhibitionist

When we were starting to potty train the boys we would let them pee outside on the trees up north. They thought it was the coolest thing and really helped to get them excited about potty training. And I'll admit that when we are in a jam, say, at a park with no bathrooms, or on a walk at the lake, and the boys have to go potty I'll walk them over to a bunch of bushes and let them do their duty. Classy, I know, but when a little kid has to go, he really has to go. Plus, peeing outside is part of the bonus of being a boy. Or so I always thought.

Just recently my mom brought my dad over to our house to visit and watch the boys play in their swimming pool. We were all sitting in the backyard enjoying some pink lemonade when Tommy announced that he had to go to the bathroom.

"Come on Tommy, let's go!" I said, leading him to the door. As I turned around to ask mom to keep an eye on the other guys I saw Joey pulling his swimming trunks down.

"Honey, don't pee out here! Come inside with me!" I scolded.

"But, I don't have to pee." Joey said very nonchalant.

"Yes you do! Let's go!" I demanded.

"No I don't!" Joey insisted.

"Well then why are your pants down?" I asked.

Joey looked over at me as he was pulling his trunks back up and said, "I'm just getting some fresh air."

Awesome! The things boys can get away with. I'll never know.

That is classic. I never thought about how convenient it will be to have boys when it come to the potty thing outside. I use to be so jealous of my brothers.
The fresh air comment had me on the floor.

Teehee... that is hysterical. Oh that Tommy. ;)

LOL! My 4 year old always wants to pee outside like her boy friends, she has perfected the grass squat!

Wow! Too funny. So like a little boy too, you know? Actually, I think big boys would try it if they could get away with it! We tried once to let our daughter go outside in an emergency--she couldn't do it, it's hard to be a girl sometimes!

That is too funny. Boys. We haven't had that issue yet, but I know it is just around the corner!

Well, I suppose they need fresh air to their parts like girls do to theirs! As long as he doesn't do it, say 10-15 years from now, he'll be fine ;)

Ok that is funnier then what my little one did to me ;)

That's hilarious! Hey, I'm right there with you about the convenience of letting them go in nature, though.

You just made my day. That is the cutest story!
My boys learned to pee outside when we lived in France. Boys do it all the time there. Ben and Sam called it "going pee pee in the woods," though there were rarely any woods! Very convenient!

ROFL!!! Oh man, the things we miss out on being girls ;)

Out loud I said, "WOW!" Oh, dear. And, my mother actually encourages mine to pee off the deck. I'm the one telling her he'll think he's a dog. Good luck. Boys and their hooters. It's a messy business.

That is funny. I almost spit out my soda. Peeing outside easily, has to be one plus that men/boys have.

That is hilarious! My boys think it's fun to pee off the porch...

Oh my! LOL!!! He is a little exhibitionist, isn't he?

But the convenience can't be beat! I've recently had to "invent" ways to help my 2 year old daughter out in public places. Very, very tricky.

CLASSIC. OK. I wonder where he gets his sense of humor from!?!?

Hilarious!

I will have to e-mail you a story about J that'll crack you up!

That's funny. Funny the things they can get away with when they're young...

I let my oldest pee in random, discrete places too. He's gets mad and has stage fright though. Like he has some sort of pee etiquette or something.

oh.my. I am laughing so hard. MY boys are going to do this someday, aren't they?!?! hahaha

my 4 y/o, sometimes out of the clear blue, will run outside because he has to go pee. he LOVES peeing outside. it's annoying. he'll just whip down his bathing suit or shorts...no matter who is around...and do his business...with me screaming at him to stop and pull up his pants...sigh...

Kat said...

Yep. My sassy boys are a riot!

Cheri- Normally I wouldn't really care if Joey peed in the bushes in the backyard but the boys have been building forts in the bushes lately and the thought of them stepping in each other's pee gives me the willies. ;)

HA! That is way funny. I love what comes out of their mouths.

That is the best laugh I have had all year! I am going right now to call my mom and apologize for all I put her through. Then I am going out back and "get some air". Love the follow-up comment also--"the thought of them stepping in each other's pee gives me the willies."

I can totally relate, as the mother of two nudist toddlers.

I almost PEED my pants at that!

That's hilarious! Count us in as having boys that pee outside at my dad's hunting cabin, side of the highway, etc.

I guess it can get a little stuffy down there...

Great insight into the priorities of males. My boys still pee outside (youngest is 15) - especially off our deck, which is about 20 feet off the ground. What's up with that?

oh, that's hysterical. What a cheeky little guy :-)

LMAO... Your lucky girls are a bit harder. If you get a chance check out my post "Ooops It Was a Poops".

Hilarious! I do love the things that kids say.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
