From 0-Bitch in 2.0

I am a bad mama.

It's one thing to hide chocolate and snacks on your kids and then nosh on it the minute they are asleep. We've all done it. No big deal, right? After all, it is junk food and it isn't good for them anyway. Plus, you don't want them to constantly ask you for junk food. But, it is another thing entirely to hide healthy, lovely, fruit on your children, and then lie when they come across it in the back of the fridge. "Oh, you don't want those strawberries honey, they are all mushy." What kind of mother does that?

Apparently, I do.

I have had one major craving the last few weeks. Strawberries. I'm becoming obsessed. I want strawberries all the time. Unfortunately, my boys love fruit more than most junk food and if they know it is in the house they ask for it nonstop. Normally, I think that is a great thing. Until their desire is for my one craving.

Last night Todd found the strawberries (which is weird because he usually doesn't move ANYTHING around in the fridge-did you catch the bitchy tone?) and ate a few in front of the boys. Naturally, the boys saw and wanted some too. I tried to persuade them to have a lovely banana, or a juicy, sweet apple instead, but they were adamant. And I was pissed. I felt like I was being personally attacked. Everyone was eating MY strawberries. The strawberries they all knew I CRAVED! I swear I almost cried.

When I finally handed the strawberries over I pouted like a toddler and said, "This family is conspiring against me!" And when Todd rolled his eyes I nearly punched him in the face.

I'm a pregnant woman on the edge, people! Don't push me! It doesn't take much to set me off these days, so if you are wise you will back away from my strawberries.

Just thought I should warn you.

Totally fair. It's never too early to learn to treat pregnant women with respect!

You can come to my house. Strawberries were $1.99 per pound so I stocked up. I'll save some for ya! ;)

You'd think by kid #4 your hubby would know not to mess with a pregnant woman! LOL

Cara said...

Sound like you already have 4 kids and the 5th is on the way. Like Kelly said, you would think by now your husband would know better than to mess with a pregnant women.

Kelly- My hubby thinks it is funny to mess with me. I am a fairly easy pregnant woman to deal with so I don't really know if he even gets how pregnant women can be. But this pregnancy I have been quite a bit more bitchy. He REALLY shouldn't mess with me. ;)

Oh I am laughing, but not at you. Just because I soooooo relate! I am obsessed with oranges right now and I walked into the kitchen yesterday and hubby was eating one, instantly irritated me! Then all the kids wanted one, cause they heard him slurping away and I was not a happy camper! They are My oranges! When all was said and done there was only one left, so I scarfed it down, before any one else got any ideas about eating my last orange.

I say your hubby should go pick you up some more strawberries. :)

Completely understandable.

Really :)

Riahli- Hehehe. So you CAN relate. :)

My poor hubs is getting such a bad rap here. He is usually very sensitive about this kind of thing. And he always runs out to get me more strawberries when I need them (but I hate to keep getting more cuz they are so expensive!). He didn't think it would piss me off so bad. But lately, everything pisses me off. ;)

Um, until they can grow a whole other person, they need to keep their hands off the strawberries!

I really enjoyed reading this post! ;) You will have to buy one of those mini refrigerators and find a good spot to hide it--and stock it FULL of strawberries!! Yeah, terrible idea--the mini's aren't that mini!

That stinks that they ate your strawberries because it is oh so fun to go back to the store and buy more (totally sarcasm there) which I'm sure is what Todd thought you could do, just go buy more. I think he should be the one to go to the store and buy you more.

Shame on them. I feel the same way when my kids ask to have a bowl of my Kashi Go Lean Crunch. Never mind that they make more. It's MY box. Go eat your damn Cheerios or Life and get over it.

I also hide the fruit from my kids! How dare they eat your food. You are pregnant after all.

I don't blame you at all! Especially since the cost of strawberries are so darn high!!! Olivia eats a 2 lb box all by herself every week....she gets mad at ME if she sees me eating any of them.....because those are HERS! :)

Rebecca Ramsey said...

They better leave those berries alone!
Maybe hide them next time inside a different container? You're totally allowed!

:p Hah! I totally understand!

OH! I can soooooo relate!!!! hang in there!!!!!

I've had the strawberry craving and I know exactly where you are coming from. I not only hid them, but I ate them as fast as possible so that no one else could eat them. I believe you are fully justified in hiding them and protecting them from those who would otherwise steal them from you. Don't they get it? Geez!

Mommy should always get dibs on the good fruit.

I hope he went out and bought you more!

Whoa. NO ONE should take away a woman's food craving unless they immediately replenish it. That's just...EVIL. LOL

I remember those days! When I was pregnant with Jack, I craved meat (doc said it was a sign of an iron deficiency. I say look at the size of my kid. Its a sign of a future linebacker). One day my dog stole my cheeseburger off the table and I swear, it was a miracle I didn't turn him into filet of Beagle and grill him on the spot!

Ohhh girl! I so sympathize! I have been there! Beat those boys off, so that you can have your strawberries!! ;)

did you enter my Bday contest yet? If not:
Hurry! hurry!

Poor Kat. Next time, just hand him the keys and turn to the boys and say, "Daddy's going to take you to the store! They have TONS of strawberries there! Won't you all have a fun time together?" He will roll his eyes and they will jump with glee and run for their coats, and you can tell hubby firmly "those strawberries are for the baby!"

You know Todd is probably going to have a crate of strawberries delivered tomorrow, right?

You could always tell everyone that you've spit on them, it used to work for my brother to keep people from drinking his soda.

Shame, shame, Kat. Really . . . all this fuss over a few strawberries? I'm surprised at you. Now if it would have been raspberries, MY raspberries, that is, well . . . that would have been a completely different story. ; D

That made me laugh out loud all the way through. Which is funny, cos I just found out a week ago, I'm pregnant too (8 weeks).

Back away from Momma's strawberries. HA HA HA! They sell 'em in bulk at Costco, if that will help... ; )

P.S. I hear you on craving fruit!!

Cassie said...

I don't blame you one bit. But hey at least it's strawberries and not, say, whole chocolate cakes. Yeah, those were definitely my downfall pregnancy cravings haha.

You are just so cute. And, yes, sounds like they all really oughtta back off if they know what's safest. ;)

I am that way with cookies and I'm not pregnant.

Well let me join you in the bad mama club. I bought three nectarines and three things of strawberries...and I have managed to eat exactly four strawberries total. My son thought the nectarines were apples and bit into them, before being repulsed and throwing them away...yep, three times. Then he and my husband keep eating the strawberries. It must b a conspiracy, I tell you.

Dani said...

I love it!!! Is it okay to act like that when your not pregnant? lol....

I am sliding some strawberries under the door and backing away...

Kristen said...

That is too funny!! I hope he returned from work with a new batch of strawberries for you! :)

That was just cruel of him! I think you should set up daily strawberry delivery for yourself alone.

Strange...but I see nothing wrong with your behavior! ;) I've got a few left in my fridge...they're all yours!

i can remember being willing to trade body parts for some fresh broccoli. those cravings and hormones do us in.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
