Boy or Girl?

Soon we will find out
Is baby a boy or girl?
Care to make a guess?

Our ultrasound is now a little over a week away. Of course, I've already mentioned that we will be attempting to find out the gender of our little munchkin, and I thought I'd give you all the option to make a guess on what you think baby is.

Before you go ahead and cast your vote in the poll on my sidebar you should read through this whole post so that you can make an "informed" decision.

Here is what I know:

- I've been told that I have approximately a 17% chance of having a girl. I don't know where that number came from, but it sounds about right.

- My grandma had five boys and Todd's grandma had four boys.

- I ALREADY have 3 boys, in case you forgot.

- This pregnancy has been different from my other pregnancies in that I have been much more nauseous. Super nauseous, actually. But I have also noticed that my pregnancies have gotten a bit rougher with each one.

- Baby's heartbeat at the last two appointments was 157 and 151.

- All my boys' heartbeats were in the 140 and 150 range.

- My sister is psychic and is right 99% of the time when guessing people's baby's gender (she was an OB nurse in the navy and was always right with her patients too). When I was pregnant with Joey she told me right away that he was a boy and that she saw me having 3 boys. She SWEARS this baby is a girl.

- Todd has a $100 bet going with her that she is wrong.

- Joey has been praying for a baby sister for the past year and he told me that God told him "yes".

- My biggest craving right now is fruit. Strawberries in particular.

- The Chinese Gender Predictor says that baby is a girl.

- Said predictor was right for Joey and Tommy but was wrong with Ben.

- I am carrying and showing the same way I did with all the boys.

- I have zero maternal instincts when it comes to predicting my baby's gender. Zero. I think I've thought each of my boys were going to be girls, so definitely don't ask me. I have no clue.

- I felt baby moving super early. Probably around 11 or 12 weeks. With my boys it was always around 19 or 20 weeks.

- When I did the wedding ring on a string held over my belly it didn't move at all. It was still. Same thing with the pencil over the arm. I think those tests are a load of crap. If your hand is really still the ring and pencil won't move at all. So there!

- I've much more irritable this pregnancy and my skin and hair don't look as nice either.

Okay. I think that covers it. If I missed anything ask me in the comments and I'll answer it right away. Now scoot on over and place your bets!
------------------------------------------------------------------

** Joey's teacher always tells her students, "You get what you get and you don't mind a bit" (but she says "git" so it rhymes with "bit") when she is handing out snacks and drinks. It has become a popular phrase around here, as it miraculously seems to curtail some whining.
On a recent trip to the doctor Joey was telling me that he changed his mind and wants the baby to be a boy instead of a girl now. I told him that decision is all up to God. Joey immediately said to me, "Well, I guess you get what you get and you don't mind a bit!" Haha!
Exactly, Joe!

I have to vote GIRL! ;)

I'm going to guess boy, though I'd love to see you have a girl. I know you'll be thrilled with either though.

Oh how fun Kat.

I am like your sister. Honest. The only time I was confused about a friend's baby a week before her ultrasound... it was because she was having twins and one of both. Seriously.

So, I, psychic OHmommy know for a fact that this baby is a sweet little girl. Enjoy!

My guess is girl! :)

I'm so torn for you....I can't pick!

I'm so bad at this game, too....so mine is just a guess. I'm guessing boy.

I know that you will be thrilled, happy and in love with either!

I have been silently reading your updates and I am convinced that this is a girl. No doubt about it. I would bet Todd $100 as well. It would be easy money.

Now for names........
(did I mention I love naming babies?)

You should ask your readers to give name ideas. You wouldn't believe the amount of cool names everyone has.

P.S.
That was totally gross about your old dog but I laughed my tail end off. LOL.

I say boy, just because everything does seem to be pointing toward the baby being a girl. Figure that one out! Ha, ha, seriously on a regular basis, I confuse myself.

I didn't try the pencil or wedding ring on a string. I did a draino and pee test (gross right). I got directions from a friend who the test worked for, and I tried it, and of the three different times I did the test, all the results seemed to point towards a girl. So I am super interested to see if it actually works or not. Cause I am sort of leaning towards it being another boy for myself. I am going to try it again in my second trimester right before my ultrasound. Weird huh, who would ever think to mix draino and pee for a gender test!

Hey...I've got two Chinese GIRLS...you don't mess with the Chinese Gender Predictor! ;)

i'm guessing a girl! that's so thrilling!

I voted girl and from the results it looks like a lot of people did!! I can't wait to hear the results. Most of all I'l pray for a healthy baby for you!!

Will's teacher always said "You get what you get and you don't have a fit." Although here it's said with a Southern accent so it already rhymes.

I'm going to say "girl", but I was wrong with all three of my babies so what do I know? I know either way, this baby will be a blessing.

Joey's teacher sounds so wise--I have the same thought about babies, too. That said, I'll follow my kid's betting habits and put my money on girl. Why? I always guess based on what type of baby I've seen a lot of lately and I've seen a lot of baby boys lately so it's time to change it up.

Anonymous said...

I am going with girl. And also hoping that the baby does not go all modest on you during the ultasound!

Midwest Mom said...

I had 2 boys and then my little girl, and I will tell you nausea wasn't a predictor. Neither was movement. I never did any of those funky tests -- no rings, pencils, or wee in a can of Drano.

I did have intuition that it would be a girl. And for me, the baby's heart rate is the biggest predictor.

My girl wasn't smaller than my boys. She didn't carry differently either. I was older with each pregnancy, so I think that's why it's harder on the ole bod.

My bet is that yours may well be a girl. It goes without saying that all a Mom ever prays for is for the baby to be healthy, boy or girl.

When my daughter was born, I felt such an amazing bond with her right away. I was unprepared for how strong a feeling it would be to have a little someone who was so much ME. If yours is a girl, my bet is that you'll understand what I mean.

Good luck with it. Either way, 10 fingers 10 toes!

I am definitely saying Girl. So many of your symptoms are similar to when I was pregnant with my daughter. The heartrate was around the same as well.
Plus, OB nurses are good about guessing those things, too ;)

Lynn C Mama to 3 said...

I think its a girl. That's my bet and I base it on absolutely nothing... except that I am starting to kinda sorta entertain the idea of a fourth (although biologicially my third). I only want a girl though, as I have two biological boys and a stepdaughter. I kinda want a daughter of my own... so I will bet on and hope that you get yours so I can live vicariously!

Pdyrholm said...

boy... it has to be... you know. Add to the collection ;-)

Anonymous said...

Well at first I was POSITIVE it was a boy. But then some things you said threw me off and made me think, "Hmmm...girl?"

But I think I need to stick with my first gut instinct which is a boy!!! :-) (but don't make fun of me, if I'm wrong! I also think I'M having a boy too, so who knows, maybe I'll be wrong there as well! LOL)

MamaGeek @ Works For Us said...

Here's another vote for girl (but I'll be honest that my gut initialy thought boy - oy!). Either way how exciting!!!

Not Your Aunt B said...

Shouldn't get rhyme with bit? And girl rhymes with twirl.

Unknown said...

That's so funny that you mentioned that phrase at the end. At Ben's school it's "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit!" And I have DEFINITELY adopted it around here!

I'm torn. I think you are probably having another boy but I think it would be SO cool for your family to be set up like mine was (I'm the youngest of four and the only girl!). So, I'm voting for boy... but pulling for a girl! : )

Can't wait to find out!!

Sarah said...

I love how you followed "I think those tests are a load of crap... So there!" with "I've been much more irritable this pregnancy." lol That was cute.

I say ..... girl.

Do you think God would fail a small boy's request after a year of prayers? Heck no. You're going to have the most spoiled little girl ever - and boys will run and hide when they realize she's got three older brothers who dote like those three will.

CC said...

I went against the flow and guessed boy.

But more irritable? Of COURSE you are. Yuu have THREE little ones at home begging for your attention right now!

Well after reading the statistic, I am going to say that chances are your having a boy... but deep down inside (for you sake) I hope you have a girl.... but then again a healthy baby is the best baby you could ask for!!!!!

I'm going girl...Yep, GIRL!

I'm with joe.

Ok, being the Mom of 2 girls...and seeing is that I have NO intuition when it comes to ANYTHING...and I just want you to experience the same wonderful wonderfulness I have.....I say healthy GIRL!
(hugs to you and your handsome boys)

you have a 50/50 shot each time you are pregnant for a boy or girl.
my vote is for girl.
However, as the saying goes @ our house, "you get what you get and you don't get upset!"

Kristen said...

How fun!

I am just so glad that you are finding out! My guess is for girl too. Not quite sure why I think that, I guess I just do.

But like another one of your readers said 10 fingers and 10 toes!

Can't wait to keep reading about the big reveal!

Anonymous said...

The moment I knew I was pregnant I knew it was a girl. I hope you have a girl. :)

Kat said...

Anonymous- It is supposed to be a 50/50 chance every time but that isn't always the case. Some people are predisposed to having one or the other because of the chemical makeup in their body. And if you have two or more of the same gender you have a much greater chance of having that same gender.

That's what I've read, anyway. Who knows if that is actually right. :)

oh honey, i told you about my oldest praying for a brother before i ever got pregnant. i'm going with girl simply because i'm betting the biggest brother has a direct line to god the way my girl did.

My initial thought was "boy" but I'm going to say "girl." Not sure why but I'm sticking with it.

Many blessings.

I'll go with girl. My sister's sister in law has 3 boys and then a baby girl! although, i have to say, girls come with much more DRAMA attached!!!

my daughter's teacher tells them at lunch "you get what you get and don't throw a fit!" she now says it at home when i put her plate in front of her and her brother.

tweetey30 said...

Sounds like a girl but again with having all boys in the mix on both sides is a tough choice. So I will have to say boy but again hoping for girl for you guys to cherish the moments in pink.. Instead of more blue..LOL..

Hilary said...

Give her a little hug for me when she's born...

Tonya said...

I know too many people with 3 boys and the 4th a girl! That is my guess :) The only bad part about this is if we get your hopes up that it will be a girl and it turns out to be a boy. Not that you don't love your boys with all your being. I just think every mom wants a little girl! Can't wait to hear the real news!!!

Jo Ashline said...

k, I voted for girl, just because I want your psychic sister to be right! And, I think you deserve some bows and pink shoes around the house!

Putting the FUN in DysFUNctional said...

I've had a "girl" feeling for your whole pregnancy. I was right with 2 out of my 3 bio kids.
My kids say "You get what you get and you don't pitch a fit!" I love it and I've started saying it as well!

Anonymous said...

awww I know you'd be happy either way, but I'm going to try and send lots and lots of girl vibes your way. I think it would be cute to read how your house full of testosterone handles a girl. ~wink~ Whatever the gender one things for sure they'll definitely be a cutie!

Anonymous said...

Can't wait to find out... I remember well when Joey told you that God had promised him a little sister!

Meanwhile, I'm curious about that "17 percent" figure. Where does that come from (from family members' children?) and how is it calculated?

I'm saying girl!

But hell, 4 boys would be so much fun too.

I'm saying girl. Dunno why, and I'm wrong a lot.

Can you have your sis tell me what my baby is please?

Tiffany @ Lattes And Life said...

I voted girl, just because we have so many similar symptoms and things.....and I'm having a girl :-)

Jessica said...

Well, naturally, I'm going to hope that you have a boy!

I've stopped by your blog before & have briefly met your Sanity Stealers via Blogger, so, I think that throwing a girl in the mix would just be TOO much fun!

Best of luck! I'll hope for a healthy baby...

Jessica said...

Ok, I clearly meant I'm going to hope that you have a girl...geez...it's Monday...sorry!

Cara said...

Kat- I know what you are going through. I swear I tried to convince the baby to be a girl at one point before finding out I was having another healthy boy. I first hope that the baby is healthy and I know girl or boy he/she is getting a awesome family with 3 big brothers to take care of them. I am secretly hoping you have a girl, its a mom thing. Plus the clothes for girls are just so stinking cute. *Hugs*

ewe are here said...

I agree that the odds are in favor of having another boy... but the minute you said bad skin and hair I thought 'girl'... because that was the primary difference with my current pregnancy as opposed to the previous two.
When I mentioned to a friend that my face kept breaking out, which gave me hope it was a girl, she told me that the 'myth' was that baby girls 'steal' their mom's beauty that way.
;-)

so I'll vote girl, just because of that.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
