Bunch Of Sickos

Friday afternoon Joey started wailing and crying that his ear hurt. Joey is not a complainer so I immediately took him in to the clinic and confirmed that he did indeed have a bad ear infection. We went to Walgreens, filled his prescription for Amoxicillin and began the healing process.

On Sunday evening Ben began covering his ear and whining. He would say "EAR!!! OWW!" and then cry and cry. I gave him Ibuprofin to get him through the night (and another dose in the middle of the night when he woke up in pain), and then scheduled the doctor appointment first thing Monday morning. And sure enough the doctor confirmed a double ear infection to my boy who has never had one ear infection. So, we again went to Walgreens and filled the prescription for Amoxicillin.

That brings us to this morning. Tommy woke up in the wee small hours of the morning crying and complaining of pain, but wasn't sure if it was his sore throat, his stuffy nose, or what it was. As of 8:00 this morning he is sure it is his ear even though the doctor checked his ears on Monday and gave him the "all clear". The crying is more and more constant as the morning wears on and he does indeed have a temperature. Another surprise ear infection for a boy who has never had one.

So for the third time in less than a week I will trudge my boys to the clinic to have some delicate ears checked. Then I will proceed to Walgreens (I swear I could drive there with my eyes closed by now) to fill out yet another prescription for Amoxicillin. When I return home my fridge will be filled with 6 bottles of the pink bubble gum flavored medicine. And, hopefully, that will be it. Spring will come, no more colds will be had, and peace will be restored in all the land.

Or at least no more ear infections.

Hope your boys feel better soon. I guess it time for another round of crazy cleaning. That's what I tend to do if everyone gets sick in my house.

Oh, that stinks. I can't imagine trying to keep track of who had what dose and when!! (you did this all wrong, you're supposed to spread it out so that you are waiting on sick kids for months, not get it over all in one go!) ;-)
All that while pregnant. I'm thinking of you!

I feel your pain. We've been sick here, too and I keep waiting for peanut's to turn into an ear infection since mine turned into a sinus/chest infection.

Hope they all feel better soon and that mama is spared!

This has got to be the worst time of the year. It is like winter wants to take one more swipe at you before spring comes in to rescue us . . .

Clearly, these sickies have no idea who they are dealing with. You'll show 'em!

I have to admit I have gotten lucky there. Neither of the girls have gotten sick real bad. My youngest has had one ear infection. She was six months old but other than that none...

My son had tubes in his ears, twice now, and he's only two. I think I need to own stock in Amoxicillin.

Wow! What a crappy coincidence.

We've yet to experience 'the joys' of the ear infection here... I had no idea they were that contagious!

Poor guys!
I well remember those days.
I had MY first ear infection last year and was shocked at how painful it was! No wonder kids cry!

Anonymous said...

I'm impressed two of them didn't get one by now. That's good going, especially with older siblings.

yikes. ear aches are awful.

Only recall one ear-infection episode in all my years of parenting five kids. Elizabeth was 8 and she got a double. YIKES!!! That was horrible -- I can't imagine THREE AT ONCE!

Prayers flooding up for you!

I hope everyone gets better soon. Ear infections are tricky!!! You wouldn't think that they are caused by a bacteria but they are! My son had one earlier this winter, he gave it to daddy, and then to grandma. Unfortunately, it seems like that's what happened to your boys. Poor babies!!!

Momisodes said...

Yikes! I am so sorry to hear everyone had ear infections. They are just awful. My daughter had them for the first time this winter as well.

Spring cannot come soon enough!

I hope you are all well by now. Do you have a Publix where you live? Amoxicillian is free at Publix.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
