How is this for random?

Random Thoughts- By Kathryn Handy

- I am taking a mental health day today. What does that mean? I don't know. But I'm not running (cuz my knee is still sore), I took a super long shower this morning, I'm eating whatever I feel like eating, listening to soothing music, and I'm relaxing and taking it easy. Well, as much as one can with three young children. But you get the idea.

- Last night's season premieres? Eh. So-so. Of course I've yet to watch Grey's Anatomy because I DVRd it but haven't had the chance to see it. The Office was okay. I was a smidge disappointed but maybe I built it up in my mind too much. ER was completely devastating to me. WHY???? Why did they do that???? I was so mad, and sad. I bawled for a half an hour.

- I usually don't post on the weekends but I think I am going to start a regular post on Saturdays. I have just been reading so many awesome posts during the week and I always intend to mention them and then forget. So I am going to list a few of my favorite posts from the week every Saturday that I think everyone should check out. I figured Saturday is a good time to do it because there aren't tons of people posting over the weekend. Deal?

- I have been getting a lot of emails from y'all asking me about running. How I went from hating running to loving running. How to get started. All that kind of stuff. I'm in the process of writing a post for people who would like to try running. It will be a How to Begin Running kind of a thing. Since I'm hardly a professional runner it will be on a very basic level for those just curious or who would like to try it.

- I am eating a bag of popcorn for my lunch today. Mmmmm.

- I have never seen episode 2 of Fringe, which I hear is the scariest thing ever. I think I am going to watch it on the computer right now while the boys are sleeping. Did I mention that my computer is in the dark basement? I hope I don't pee myself.

- I've also gotten emails asking how my dad is doing. I've been trying not to write too much about dad because it is like opening Pandora's box. I can't shut up about it. He has been doing absolutely fabulous. I am just so proud of the way he is handling being in the nursing home. He is still really sleepy all the time (so many meds!) but he is so pleasant. He is always so excited to see me and the boys. We visit him once or twice a week and my mom is with him every morning. He has good days and bad, of course, but he actually called me by my name the other day. I hadn't heard that from him in a long time. Very cool.
Still, it is really difficult. Difficult to leave him there by himself (though the nurses are absolutely wonderful) and go do activities he always enjoyed. Whether we are having a cookout in the backyard, going to a football game, or getting together for a birthday party we all feel so badly (guilty) that he is not with us. Pretty heartbreaking stuff when I let myself think about it.

- Speaking of football games. We are going to my old high school tonight to watch the homecoming game that my niece is cheerleading for. So bizarre! I feel like I should be the one cheering. How did I get to be old enough to have a niece on the cheerleading squad? And she isn't even my oldest niece. I have a 22 year old niece that cheered at that same high school too! Man, I'm getting old.

- Okay. I'm off to watch episode 2 of Fringe. Wish me luck.

Now then, you and popcorn for lunch. That's so my kind of lunch. Enjoy your day 'off', sounds grand on this lovely fall day.

oh i am really glad to hear your dad has adjusted well to the nursing home. i know it's still not the way you'd like things to be, but under the circumstances that really must be a relief.

Definitely wish you luck. I've been thinking of you and your Dad. I'm glad to know things are going better. Good luck with the open house. I'm glad you're taking care of yourself.

I haven't watched ER in years, but now you have me curious. Don't get too scared with Fringe.

I've been wondering about your dad but didn't want to seem insensitive by asking... now was it appearing I'm insensitive because I didn't? I'm glad he's doing fab, and I'm so sorry how hard this is on you all.

If you get too scared down in that basement, you can come over here :-)

Let me know how Grey's goes please!!

Don't go getting yourself on a guilt trip about taking an R&R Day, or the house or your Dad -or well, anything, cause heaven knows, you've worked hard enough, still are with three young'uns running around and everyone deserves a break today. (To quote McDonald's, ya know.)
Anyway, it was really good to hear that your Dad is dealing so much better in the nursing home. Bound to be good and bad days -normal fare for all of us -but just that he has been adjusting better is good to hear and makes his being there that much easier for you, your Mom and the whole family then to cope.
Peace.

I swore off ER when they killed Carter's baby, but now I'm curious about what happened. WHAT WAS IT.

I keep hearing about Fringe, maybe I'll give it a try, too.

Happy day off!

I've always heard that the people who are the happiest, and live the longest, are the ones who take it easy through life and try not to stress out about too much.

Good job.

It's not an exaggeration when people say they are so stressed that they're "going crazy".

been there:-)

great blog! I have 2 littles, 5 and 2.5, I totally get it. Glad your dad is happy. Nursing homes aren't always that bad. Keep up the running- I'm jealous. Theoretically I think I'd like it, but I can't wear sneakers right now. I jsut need a little surgery, but been putting if off because I'll be off my feet for about 6 weeks. BLECK.

Random works for me!! I haven't seen ER yet but now you have me curious. I remember how it ended last year and am dying to see how they continue from there! I'll have to try and watch it soon

Glad to hear your dad is doing so well.I had thought about you and him recently as my own dad has had some major health problems.

Enjoy your day and don't pee yourself! LOL

I love it when you are random. It gives us loads of insight into your mind. I'm hoping you enjoyed Fringe. I think the shows were pretty meh because they are busy giving us the backstory for what is to come. I loved Dwight's goatee.

I am so glad to hear that update about your dad...I had been wondering.

Now I wish my house was really clean and decluttered.

Sounds like you deserve a day "off".

I just watched ER and cried too. I can't believe that wrote Pratt off the show. He was such a good actor too. Sniff..sniff...

BTW - how was Fringe? Did you make it out of the basement alive :)

I haven't watched Grey's - my girls were busy and begged me to wait until we could have a big group Grey's fest. I did love The Office, and never saw the rest-stop-in-the-rain coming!

Hooray for mental health days! They are the best!

I thought about eating cheetos for lunch, but decided against it.

Love the random post. So much, but so little

I enjoyed Grey's last night. Popcorn for dinner is what I do on real busy nights. Which lately is M-F. Hope you enjoyed your day.

This is going to be long...

Now I have to watch ER. It's on my DVR. I just actually watched the last episode of last season the other day. So, it's fresh.

I love the Saturday idea to link to other posts - that sounds great!

On the running, I think God is sending me a sign that I need to start too. Does that sound weird? I have read and been told about SO many people in the last few days that used to HATE it and now love it. And I did it some yesterday. And I want to do it more. I will look for that future post.

Glad to hear that your Dad is doing well. It pulls at my heart strings when you talked about him not being at family gatehrings... continued prayers for him.

Ok, I think I am done.

My hubby watched episode 1 of Fringe. I didn't know that episode 2 was out - I'll have to pass that on to him. I don't know how he missed it.

As for Grey's Anatomy - lots of dream sequences! Bear that in mind. It was excellent, as always. And now I have to watch ER. I have no idea what happened, because I was watching Grey's (and I don't have a DVR).

Peace - D

I LOVED The OFfice last night! Maybe you were just in a bad mood. I actually started crying when Jim proposed to Pam, which is more than I did when I got engaged...

You are so dear. I'm glad to hear about your dad doing well in his new surroundings. Glad his nurses are wonderful. That makes such a big difference. Meanwhile, I hope you do the post on getting started on running soon! My growing backside will thank you! Oh, and I had the ultimate "I'm-getting-old" moment at work the other day. Our new student worker was born the year I graduated. College. Gulp.

I am with you on ER. Why in the world did they do that? UGH!

Glad to hear that your dad is doing as well as can be expected. I have been wondering.

I love your idea of posting on Saturdays to let us know what posts you loved. Really! I love other people's recommendations.

I too think I would love to hear about your beginning running. I live at 7000 ft elevation and I try to blame my inability to run on the fact that I can't breathe. Mostly it is just that I am out of shape. Sad isn't it!

Hope your open house goes AWESOME tomorrow! :)

Great news about your dad! I am SO glad to hear he's doing well. :)

ER... I can't talk about it. I'll cry, again.

Grey's... I just watched it. Pretty good! Some things I am not happy about, and some that I think will make for an interesting season. We'll see.

Best wishes on that open house! :)

I agree with Beck. The Office and I had a very joyous reunion last night. Jim and Pam how I love thee!

On your recommendation I just watched the pilot of fringe on my puter. I am interested and am planning on watching episode 2 tomorrow while DH is watching football. Then we'll discuss.

Yay! I'm so glad your dad is doing well! And good for you to take a mental health day...

Looking forward to your post on running; I've been wondering if I should try it myself.

And you feel old when your oldest niece is only 22? Ha! My oldest nephew is going to be 27 soon, and his wife is pregnant!! 36 is too young to be a great aunt! :)

I am SOOO glad to hear good news about your dad! That is just wonderful.
I LOVE the Saturday idea....maybe you should make a graphic and a Mr Linky and we could all join in?

I've been wondering about your dad, too, Kathryn, and I am so glad to hear that he is settling in so much better. Still heartbreaking, but so much better than those first days.

I agree about The Office. The end was awesome, but it wasn't the same caliber of show that it used to be. I felt that way about the start of last season, but then they got better after the strike. This was just... different. ER made me really mad, too. I kept wondering why not Uncle Jesse instead.

ER is still on???

Just arrived here from Authorblog. I understsand what you said about your dad and Pandora's box. And I understand feeling bad (guilt). But I'm glad things are going as OK as can be expected. That is a hard, hard thing. I haven't been through it because in my case, it was my mom, and we somehow avoided that. (Probably not wisely.) But there was always plenty of things to be sad about, worry about and be guilty about. You just have to do your best, and it sounds like you are.

That's good news about your dad. You must feel so relieved that he's improving. I thought The X Files was super scary. I don't think I could handle Fringe.

Rose said...

Very random indeed! Not unlike me everyday. Honestly, posting on the weekends is somewhat easier for me. less work and other scheduled stuff. Now email me and tell me what happened on ER! I haven't watched it in years.

And Fringe, I don't remember when it comes on, so I've only seen one episode - must not have been the second one since I don't recall being freaked out/scared.

I'm glad your dad is adjusting well, and more so, called you by name. Feel free to come stay at our "bed & breakfast" guest room any day!

Have a great week.

I love your randomness.

You have peaked my interest in the running thing. I really want to want to run. I just don't want to.
But if you could "learn" me how...
I would be so excited. I will wait with bated breath for that post.

Love your randomness! I just dropped in from David;s blog.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.
