Back On The Clock

It is strange after being on "summer time" for the last few months to suddenly be thrust into school time again. Always watching the clock. Always rushing. And this year even more so than last year since Joey and Tommy both start school at 8:15 but Tommy is done at 11 and Joey is done at 11:30. That is an awful lot of running around. Thankfully Tommy only has preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I was so proud of my boys today. Tommy acted like such a little grown up on his very first day of school ever. While all of the moms were busy putting their child's things in their cubbies Tommy went and did it all on his own. Every time I would try to help he insisted that he could do it. After he was done settling in he got busy playing and introducing himself to his classmates. He would walk right up to them and say, "Hi! I'm Tommy!" Such a dear.

Joey fell right back into the swing of things. He waved goodbye to me without so much of a look back. My big ole kindergartner. Always the big brother he kept promising Tommy that he would come and visit him (they are right across the hall from each other) if he had some spare time. They are such pals.
I guess I shouldn't feel too badly then that when Joey came running out of school towards us with his arms wide open he ran right past me to Tommy. He hugged him and patted him on the back and told him that he missed him. He then went to Ben, picked him up and swung him around. Ahh. Brotherly love. It was so sweet I almost didn't care that he completely forgot to say "hi" to me as he rushed off to the playground.

It all went very well in the end, and I can't complain. The boys did great for their first day school (and the hottest day of the year!) after having finished out the summer on a complete high. Ben had recovered from his nasty virus in less than 24 hours and was in full on party mode for the rest of the weekend. We toured the county fair, rode the rides, and ate the greasy food. The next day we spent all day on the boat and in the sun. The boys were overjoyed. Yesterday we spent our time playing at the park and getting our school supplies ready. We have been busy and the boys sleep schedule was way off from the norm, but they handled it really well.

We also took a look at a house that we have admired for a while. It has been for sale for a couple of months and we finally bit the bullet and scheduled a viewing. It is a great house. It has just about everything we want in a house. Now we are trying to decide if we put an offer in on the house and what we can afford. My mind has been in overload thinking of all the things that go into the possibility of moving. And the emotion of it too. I am trying to keep my mind off of it for the time being but it has been hard.

After this past weekend I feel like I am running on fumes. I'm already looking forward to this coming weekend so that I can maybe, just maybe, swing back into "summer time" again.

Glad to hear your house is healthy!

It is hard getting back into the swing of things isn't it?? Cute back to school picture. Sounds like they like it.

WOW! What a full weekend and day you have had. Glad to hear that all went well, and are all back home. Hopefully napping for you to rest! :)

Fun, fun on the possibility of moving. It is so scary/fun all at the same time.

Thinking of you, and hoping that you can make it to the weekend to swing back into summer mode. :)

Oh my gosh your brotherly love story with the boys made me tear up! That is so sweet!!!

We just went back to school today too and I think the kids' were much more excited to see each other than me. I was kind of bummed!

As much as I like the summer and not having the schedule, once we get into the swing of it, it's actually kind of nice. I don't have to run as much though because we have full day kindergarten so I pick up both at the same time.

Picture from the first day is too cute! They definitely look all grown up!

That will be my girls next year (first year of preschool and kindergarten). I can only hope that I have such sweet words after their first day.

Awwww! Your boys are soooo cute!!! :) We started school last week (I still need to post pics). My youngest started kindergarten, too. He has been a very shy boy, but he did soooo good (which helped me feel so much better as well). I am soooo glad that first day is over with and we can go from here! :)

Good luck w/the house!
Have a good week! :)

Did you get my email? Funny that my reader didn't update before I asked if Tommy was starting soon. Glad to hear the first day went so well for the boys. I'm sighing deeply in anticipation. Good luck with the house situation.

I totally "awwwwww"'d out loud. They are adorable. It's hard to watch them grow up, isn't it? How cool they were so lovey with each other when school was out. But how weird it must have felt to have 2/3 of your boys GONE! Makes you remember how much easier it is with 1, doesn't it?

It's first day back for mine tomorrow.

I say only move into this house if it's the perfect house for you.

Coming from someone who doesn't like her house... or moving... though you'd think that I did as we do it every 3 years. :)

That whole brother thing really is just truly very super sweet. Seriously. Awesome and cute. I also agree that moving is fairly miserable.

Your boys are just so doggone adorable -and obviously, from your post, are very close too and unafraid of showing their affection for each other. My granddaughter, Maya (almost 5) went back to school yesterday -new teacher, new class group, new time this year. This is her second year attending a special school for autistic children and she did fantastic there last year so we are certainly hoping for a re-run. Yesterday, she was pretty good about getting on the van but her mother had told her that it would either be me or her 16-year-old sister getting her off the van in the afternoon since her mother would be at work. Maya told her then she wanted "Katie, not Gram" to get her off the van but what we didn't figure on was that Katie had band practice after school so it was up to Gram to get her off the van and when Maya gets an idea lodged in her mind like that, she can be more than a trifle persnickety then if she doesn't get what she specified. So it took a little fancy wheedling around to get her off the van then without her going into a meltdown. This a.m. though, it was up to Gram to get her on the van and she was as good as gold -even giving me a big hug and kiss goodbye. Since nothing was said this a.m. about who would get her off this afternoon, I'm hoping she will be as docile then as she was boarding this morning! Cross your fingers and send up a peace prayer for me in that respect -around 4 p.m. today, please!!!

They look so handsome!!! I'm having a hard time adjusting back to school time too.....Goosey has to be there by 8:30 and she's a slow moving cookie in the morning.

New house - how exciting! Keep us posted!

Those are some crazy cute boys. And my kids totally neglected me in their excitement to reunite with each other too. It was sweet. But still a wee bit disappointing.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
