When Life Hands You Lemons

It has been raining for days.  Almost weeks.  We haven't really had any nice, warm days in what seems like forever.  It has been gloomy and cool for far too long.

The sun broke through the clouds yesterday and dropped it's glorious rays on us right in the middle of the kids' nap time.  Didn't matter to me.  I woke them up from their sleep and got them into shorts as quickly as I could.  Outside we all went to play with frisbees and soccer balls and footballs and bikes.  For all of 15 minutes.  Then it started to rain again.

Ho-hum.  We stood under our front porch to see if the rain would pass.  It didn't.  Finally I just told the boys to have at it.

Before I could change my mind they quickly jumped onto their bikes and took off through the puddles.

Pure
 Boy
 Fun
I guess they didn't need sunshine after all.
Gracie was eagerly watching and wanted to join in so badly but listened so nicely when I told her she couldn't.  She has been nursing a cold for a while and I wasn't sure it would be a good idea to let her splash around with the boys.
But I just couldn't let her standby and watch the boys have all the fun so eventually I let her join in too.  I didn't have to tell her twice.  In she went.
And she, too, had a blast soaking herself silly.
This one can definitely keep up with the boys.
They all had a blast playing together.  Even the dog got in on the fun.
After almost two hours of soaking in the rain it was time for a good soak in the tub.
It may not have been the sunshine we wanted, but they had fun nonetheless.

How fun is that! And you didn't even have to apply sunblock :)

LOVE those kind of days when you just get to say "to heck with it!" and have fun regardless. These are great pictures!

This post made me smile SO much! :) Your family reminds me so much of our little family. I can see things Grace does, in my Chloe; and your boys seem so much like my boys. I love it! :)

I feel as if our entire family is slowly covering in mold from all this rain. It's starting to get depressing. But what a wonderful day you had in the rain....so much fun! The tubby shot with the shampoo hair is the best of the bunch.

I wish we could trade just for a little while; we need rain SO badly here!
It looks like the kids had a blast! I bet they'll have fond memories of this day.

I love that last puddle shot with her full reflection - so cool!!! Looks like they had a great time. I am not a fan of rain either - here's hoping the sun comes out for you guys and sticks around for awhile!

Oh, I love it. So glad Gracie got to join in with the boys!

I think that beats sunshine any day.

we've been having the same cold, wet spring/summer. ah but somehow the glee of little kids splashing makes it seem like a good season anyway, doesn't it?

Those moments are some of my favorites. I love letting my kids just let loose like that. Those are the things they will remember the most when they grow up. I know I do.

I'm LOVING all of the pictures in your recent posts.

Super fun! Those are serious puddles - but it looks like they all had serious fun!

You've actually made an overcast rainy day look like a good time!

I wish I had a bunch of other kids I could go splashing in puddles with and... Oh, wait, I do. It's my softball team, and we've had plenty of opportunity so far this year.

Seriously, though, that looks like great fun. I did my share of it as a boy, but I'd still be tempted at age 54. I guess some of us never completely grow up :-)

Sometimes you just have to let them play in the rain, right!? I'm s glad you did. Such great photos of the fun too. :)

And that's one big tub, girl! I can't believe they all fit! SO CUTE!

So I'm not the only one that gives up and lets the kiddos play in the rain... of course I live in Washington on the rainy side, so what else can I do? My kids love playing in the rain, we've had some great times with sidewalk chalk in the rain. :) I love the tub picture, I always throw all four of my kids in as well. Makes it easier that way. Your kids are growing up so fast!!! It's so wild, you blink {or don't check on a blog for a few weeks...} and they are all grown up.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
