Rushing

This has been one of the busiest weeks in recent memory.  We've had all of the kids' swimming lessons, Joey's Reconciliation meeting, Molly's appointment with the groomer, Tommy's snack and juice week for school, Joey's reading for the school mass, Molly's spaying and recovery, a couple of nice long runs for me, Todd's work meetings, parent/teacher conferences for the boys, planning and shopping for the massive SUPERBOWL party we are having next weekend, and more planning for Joey's 8th birthday party coming up.  Although when we told Joey we were planning a birthday party for him with all of his classmates he just said, "I'd rather go up north!"  So, maybe the party will wait until next year.

Anyway, it has been a mad scramble around here.  On top of it all I have a cold.  Boo.

Instead of relaxing and taking it easy this weekend we've decided to load the family up in the Suburban and head up north to go skiing.  If you'll remember we did the same thing last year.  It was hectic and not so easy but the kids had a blast so we are trying it again.  The plan this time is for me to sit on the bunny hill with Grace, playing in the snow, while Todd takes each of the boys down the hill one by one.  Hopefully, Joey and Tommy will learn how to use the tow rope by themselves and then they can all go down together.  We'll see. We just keep telling ourselves that once the kids learn how to ski, and are a little more self sufficient, all the hard work will have paid off and ski trips will once again be a blast.  I'm sure we will have to remind ourselves of that over and over again while we are on the hill this weekend.

It is times like these when I have to remind myself to take it all in.  These really are the best years of our lives and when we are so busy like this time just whooshes by too quickly.  I get caught up in keeping schedules and remembering appointments and rushing, rushing, rushing.  I don't enjoy it all like I should.  I am hoping, praying, that I can just sit back and enjoy the madness this weekend.  I hope I can let the craziness fall where it may, and truly enjoy my family just as they are in this very moment.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go snow blow the driveway before I start packing everyone's stuff for the weekend so that I can then rush off to the grocery store and buy some goodies for up north before it is time to pick up the boys at school.

*sigh*

That sounds like MADNESS!
I like that your son just wants a trip for his birthday. We do that every other year. Opposite years they get to have a party.

Thank you for the reminder that this is it, this is what we do everything for and we should pause and take it all in. I claim to crave a quiet weekend, but all too soon all of my weekends will be quiet and I know I'll be missing this.

Hope you have fun this weekend. Good luck.

Green Girl- I thought Joey would be so excited about the party because he has never had a birthday party with his friends before. We figure each of our kids will get one or two big parties with their friends. That way they are a big deal and they will really remember them. So far they have only had small parties (except for their first birthdays which they don't remember of course) with just our family and grandparents. So I was super shocked when he said he didn't want a party. Such a weird kid. ;)

Have a great time on your trip up north for the weekend! I've never gone skiing. Want to adopt me?

Oh gee Kat, couldn't you fit a fundraiser or a half-marathon in as well? You just don't have enough going on. Have a great weekend, and rest away that cold!!

I hope you are able to enjoy the weekend! I know how stressful it is; I hate rushing and being over-busy.

Wow you know if I lived closer to you there is nothing I would like more than to come over; roll my sleeves up and just pitch in. My schedule is so bloomin empty, that I could use some days like that. A superbowl party! That will be FUN!

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.
