Missin'

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and Lolli

Ben has started school now. For two mornings a week he is officially a big boy. And he relishes those two days. The other three days of the week are a bit harder on him.

I am always interested to see how the younger sibling handles it when the older siblings start school again. Will they soak up as much mommy time as possible? Will they enjoy the personal attention? Or will they miss their playmates and count the minutes until it is pickup time?

It seems Ben is a bit of both. He does like to be mommy's helper but he sure does miss his big brothers. I hear "I miss Tommy" at least 25 times until we finally pick up Tommy from kindergarten at 11:45. As soon as Tommy jumps in the car Ben is saying, "I love you so, so much!" It is actually very heartwarming to see how much the boys really enjoy each other, despite their many fights and teasing.
But sometimes, even though I know it is good for a child, it breaks my heart to see Ben playing alone. Sometimes he just looks a little lost.
Just one more hour to go, Benny.

That's so bittersweet. I remember Julianna going through that with Jacob when he was gone. Rite of passage I guess.

Maybe in a teeny way it helps him appreciate Tommy more.

He'll also be able to have more fun with Grace as time goes by.

Oh....that is hard. Your boys sound so sweet. I love to see the bond between brothers, how they may bicker and fight sometimes {my boys do too} but the love runs so deep.

Oh, poor little guy. That is a little sad, isn't it. Hopefully, he will figure out how to play solo (or play with his sister) to help pass the time.

Lorelei was annoyingly clingy when her brother was in school and she was only doing a few hours in the morning of preschool. And then when kindergarten was only a half day she was always asking when Caleb was going to come home.

And I bet their reunions are so cute! My boys are always so happy to see each other again! :)

Oh, but he's so adorable sitting there!

Sometimes I think that time to play alone is good for a kid. At least, that's what I tell myself when Alexis is left without any neighbors around once in a while. ;-)

Just precious! Our Kindergarten is full day, so my little guy has to wait all day! It is so sweet though, huh?

That is hard to watch them leave and then come back.. But I didnt have that as much when Kora was in Kindergarden with Bri.. She just liked having her time alone away from Kora. But she did like going and getting Kora. She just liked her time alone for the day and was ready to battle when the older one came home..lol..

Awww, that is so sweet! And you are right he does look a little lost. :(

At our house, I think Anya loves the alone time. Every day that Cade goes to school, I hear "it's just the girls". It is kinda fun to have just one shopping buddy!

Great post friend!

Oh, man, that photo just BREAKS MY HEART! I think Jonas feels much the same way about V-meister being in school. She doesn't come home until 3:30, and then she usually just wants to go up to her room and be alone. Poor kid, he's bored out of his gourd without her.

My younger two were forlorn also when the older brother/s left the nest for school. That picture of your boy on the swingset just captures it.

Oh that is just too sad and too cute at the same time.

that last picture breaks my heart! Eva can be like that ~ loving the mama time but wanting desperately for 3:10 to roll around so Julia can be home!

Awww that's so tender. But you're right... it is good for him to learn how to play alone. And he's still got a wee sister to share time with.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
