Keeping My Legs Tightly Crossed

Todd is out of town all day today and won't be back until tomorrow. He is going to be an hour and a half away staining all of the woodwork that will be going in the new house. Though I know the staining has to be done this weekend for the construction project to remain on schedule I must admit that I am a little freaked out.

As you may have read here, my labors are all pretty quick. I'm a little concerned that if baby decides to come between now and tomorrow Todd may miss the birth.

I did have a doctor's appointment yesterday and was told that I am still not dilated. I was pretty happy hearing that until the doctor said that it could just mean that I will go from 0 cm to delivering in no time at all since I have a history of quick labors. Hmm. Not good.

So, today I am taking it as easy as possible. No long walks with the boys, no chasing after them at the park, no bike rides, no running errands, and no cleaning. I think I will park my buns on the couch and keep my legs tightly crossed for the remainder of the day. Besides, I don't mind soaking up these last days of my last pregnancy. I have to take advantage of my lovely cup holder while I've got it.

(Please excuse the tired expression, the ratty top, the bedhead, and the glasses. I just woke up.)

In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that baby waits to make her grand entrance until at least Saturday evening.

Hang in there, Kat. I guess we need to pray the baby will wait a day or two, anyway.

Blessings to you!

I'll keep my fingers crossed and you keep your legs crossed and I'm sure the baby won't come until Todd gets back!

Ha, ha...I worked my rear off trying to get Spike out when he was a week over due and it wasn't until the day I took it easy that he came! Not to freak you out...I was a week over due after all.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. So exciting!

Fingers crossed that little babe stays put til Saturday evening at least! Love the cup holder.

(In our house, pregnant bellies are also a huge temptation to our cats, who regard them as both a handy curling up spot and their personal furnace.)

If there's one thing I've learned with my girl, it's that girls are unpredictable.

My daughter was my third (sound familiar?) and I always joked that I would start labor after a restful night's sleep and she'd be out in time for everyone to go home for supper.

I went into labor with her at 8am on a Sunday morning. Fully rested. I puttered around the house for a while, and by 11 am I told hubby it was time to take the kids to his sister's. I got to the hospital around noon, but by 2pm I was still only 3 cm dilated and labor had stopped completely. Decision time. I decided to go home rather than letting them break my water.

On the way out of the parking lot, I said to my husband that maybe we should stay near the hospital... just for an hour or so to be sure. He hadn't gotten lunch, so we went to a little sandwich shop. I ordered the white chili. It was delicious (between super-strong contractions, that is.) By the time I got back to the hospital one hour later, I was a 7. Two hours later, she was born, healthy and beautiful.

And everyone was able to go home to their families for supper.

The lessons of this story are twofold.

1. Think positive. If you keep saying she won't come until Todd's home, she won't come.

2. Avoid white chili at all costs for the next two days.

I'll be praying for you, Kat. Keep smiling!

Oh please honey you look wonderful! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you though, I know it would be stressful if Todd weren't there with you when you went into labor.

you are funny this is your 4th child and you know that crossing your legs won't keep her in tee hee; but we can hope. For all of your disparaging words about how you look I have never seen a prettier pregnant lady. You look lovely, and we are all excited for you.

;p Both times I went into labor occurred after I finally sat down to rest, after being busy for a long time.

ok, just once could you post an ugly picture, because seriously if this is what you look like after just waking up...

Todd will make it. You will rest today and when he gets home, then you can gear up for your quick, painless, joyful labor. :-)

Definitely put those feet up and take it easy. I really hope she stays put. Feed her lots of chocolate and ice cream so she doesn't want to leave. At least not until next week!

Okay, I'm crossing my fingers (and legs) for you too!

I can relate. Although I didn't have the fast labor to worry about...I was worried to go into labor at all, with my risk for rupture. I was afraid to do anything those last few weeks. I did a whole lot of laying around. Rest up!

I hope she waits for Todd to get back...enjoy your cup until that time.

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
