Stormy Summer

While this summer has been terribly short on rain I still feel like it has been fairly stormy.  It seems to be one thing after another around here and we are just trying to weather each storm.

Yesterday we had a follow up eye doctor appointment for Ben.   As I was getting the kids ready to go to my mom's un-air conditioned house the temperature outside hovered around 96 degrees.  Five minutes later Ben told me that the thermometer read 85 degrees.  Ten minutes later when I was dropping off Joey, Tommy, and Grace at mom's house (so I could take Ben to his appointment and actually hear what the doctor had to say) it was 78 degrees.  The temperature dropped 18 degrees in 10 minutes.  A storm was rolling in.

At the doctor's we found out that Ben's glasses have had no affect on his eye muscles (as I suspected) and he will no longer need to wear them.  Unfortunately, he will need to have surgery on both his eyes (as I suspected from the beginning).  Worry, worry, worry.  It is my middle name.

When we got home the storm had hit us full on.  Rain poured down quenching the parched ground.  It rained and rained.  The thundered growled.  The lightening struck.  The storm plowed on.

Afterwards the grass was greener.  The plants stood taller.  Everything looked cleaner and brighter and healthier.  The storm did it's job.  Amazing how something so violent looking can actually make things better.

I guess sometimes just weathering the storm makes you healthier and stronger.

We need this rain so bad!
Good luck to Ben as you work out how to fix his eyes.

Hopefully the surgery will be the final fix for Ben's eyes. God be with all of you through this latest storm.

The storm was pretty amazing! It didn't last super long here (maybe like 1-2 hours?) but it made up for it in the QUALITY of the storm. I don't know why I didn't think to get a pic of the lake...it seriously looked like the OCEAN with giant crazy waves shooting SIDEWAYS and branches whipping erratically around the house. Other than missing my show due to the news taking over, LOL, I enjoyed it!

What a stormy picture!

That really stinks about Ben's eyes. I'm so sorry to hear that.

Hoping the life storms bring some green!

Sorry to hear about Ben hopefully this isn't a major thing. Is Grace walking on her leg yet?
Your having a regular southern summer this year! We have had some rain almost ever day this last couple of weeks. You described perfectly what they do, make the gardens and plants beautiful.
Water is life.

I love storms. :) Especially when it's a warm rain... Sorry to hear about Ben and his needing surgery, I'm such a worrier too so I totally understand. Prayers for both of you.

You are SO right with that last line, my friend.

It rains here a lot, as a matter of fact I have to trim BACK my plants about 3-4 times a summer because otherwise, things look too overgrown. It's crazy.

So sorry to hear about Ben's eyes and that surgery is required. How is he taking it?
that's such a sweet pic of your kids. am glad you got the rain....we desperately need it! Everything's dry and dead. we can't even walk barefoot in our yard, it's so dry and brittle, it hurts our feet.
and yes....everything looks amazing after a rain.

Sorry about the surgery worry. I would be useless in your situation :( I do love your optimistic spirit about weathering the storms Kat, even though I'm sure some days you're "smiling till you feel like it". Hang in there!

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.
