Summer

Photobucket

Summer is for running around the house in your swimsuit all day.
Summer is for trips to the zoo and cooling off in the penguin exhibit.
Summer is about hot, humid weather that drains you even with the simplest task.
Summer is about exploring your passions.
And being patient while your big brothers explore their passions.
Summer is for exhausted rides home.
Summer is about multiple trips to warm lakes and swimming until you are wrinkled and pruney.
Summer is about eating it fresh off the plant and tasting it's warm sweetness pop in your mouth.
Summer is about playing in the gritty sand. And chewing on shovels.
Summer is about enjoying life to the absolute fullest. For taking advantage of every moment that you can. Summer can be absolutely exhausting for parents. Especially when stomach viruses run through the house. And sometimes sickness is the only thing slowing you down in summer's fast paced run. Yes, summer can certainly be draining. But summer is fleeting and now it is almost over.
.
When I was a kid and the stores would start sending out their Back To School fliers I would get so excited at the thought of school beginning. I couldn't wait to see my friends again, to wear the new shirt mom bought me, and to open that brand new box of crayons. Yesterday I asked the boys if they are excited about school starting in a few weeks and their answer was not what I expected. "No! I want summer to last forever!" they all whined. And I smiled to myself knowing I must be doing something right.
.
So, I will put aside blogging for a while longer, too busy with soaking up the last of summer. Though the weather can make me feel sluggish and slow it does not slow time from whizzing by, proven by the approach of Grace's 1st birthday. It knocks the breath out of me when I look back with panic wondering where this past year has gone. I try not to make myself too crazy. I want to enjoy each day as much as I can. But knowing how fast it all goes does put a certain pressure on me to make each day count. So I will do my best. Soaking up this summer. And soaking up my little ones while I can.

Really? Grace is almost 1? Wow, I am getting older at warp 8. You are so right. If you can brave the heat then have at it! it must not be as hot where you are. But it seems to me this heat wave is over most of the US. I am bernin up!

Karen- Our temps are around 90 with humidity at about 70 percent. It is pretty crazy. Which is why we are swimming and at sprinkler parks every day. ;) I think I should have invested in some sunscreen and bugspray stocks in spring. ;)

Hope you are able to enjoy summer a bit despite the heat!

Enjoy the rest of your summer! I loved seeing the cute pictures of your kids and what you've been up to lately.
Here in Seattle, we've had a very cool summer...only a couple of days have gotten to 80 so far!

So happy that you are having a great summer! Seeing the pictures of your kids brings back so many memories of my youth and just being exhausted at the end of the day from all the swimming!

I completely feel you on the whole Grace turning one it seems like only yesterday I found your blog as we were both expecting August babies. So if you don't post between now and then Happy 1st Birthday to Miss Grace I will be shedding some tears myself next week!

I can't believe Grace is almost 1! Time flies!!! Love all the pics. Looks like y'all are having a great summer together. My older boys don't want school to start either, but that's just because they love to sleep in! Jaxon (5) is so excited to start school and the older two say it's just because he's never been and once he knows what it's like he won't want to go back! Ha! Hope y'all enjoy the rest of summer!

Hattie- Ha! My youngest boy (Ben) said he was excited to go to school and my older boys said the same thing. Course, Ben will just be in 3K twice a week so it will mostly be play time. ;)

I don't blame 'em - I wouldn't want to go back to school either! Such great captures and words, girl. I love that shot of the grape tomatoes - just want to pull one off and eat it!

Oh. My. Goodness!!! That first picture of Grace is so stinkin' cute!! All of the pictures are so adorable!
It has been so hot here that we spent the entire day yesterday inside, with nothing much to do. Like a snow day, but the other end of the spectrum. I just snuggled my baby girl all day long. Then today we spent 4 hours at the pool. Good times!

I always enjoy reading your posts but I absolutely love it when you toss in so many great snapshots of the children. The picture of Grace in the swimsuit and stretching on her tippy toes is absolutely priceless. Just love that one especially. And don't feel guilty about paying attention to the kids, the family, to making summer the best it can be and not posting with any regularity because of that. They are only this age/size once and too often I think we forget that aspect about each season of our children's lives. Go and enjoy but take lots of photos in the process to share then when life slows down a notch later on.

I love these! Your baby girl is way too cute in that little swimming suit, and everyone asleep in the car made me laugh out loud! :-) (I LOVE your header too; what a great picture of you and your little ones). ;-)

I love your summer pics!

You're an awesome example Kat. Our summer has gone waaay too fast. It doesn't help that it's only 6 weeks long anyway and the last two will be spent traveling. I only hope my kids dread going back as much as yours :-)

I love your little girl's crinkled nose as she wait for her brothers. Good for you for putting off blogging to enjoy the little bit that's left of summer. Soak it in!

Hearing you loud and clear, sister. We're sucking up summer in a bad way, too. NOT excited about school starting.
Darn, you've got cute kids.

Looks like a terrrific summer! Mine has been much of the same. Just trying to enjoy every moment with my son before going back to work/school, which for teachers starts next week (crying....). The summer went by way to fast!

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
