I Cry

A few weeks ago Grace woke up crying from her nap. It was earlier than she usually wakes so I waited to see if she would fall back to sleep.  She didn't.  When I went in to get her she was still crying.

"Why are you crying, Gracie?"  I asked her.

"No know!" she answered back shaking her head.

"You don't know?  Are you just whiny?"  I prodded further.

"No." she said using her most favorite word.

Since that little incident every time I go in to get Grace out of bed she loves to tease me.

"I cai!" she tells me, regardless of if she is actually crying or happy as a lark.

"Oh baby, don't cry!"  I comfort her each time.

"I whiny!" she adds.

"Don't be whiny!" I tell her as we both laugh.

It really is cute.  And she does this EVERY time I come to get her.  It always cracks me up.  And lately I could use a little laughter to get me going.

I have had close to no sleep the last four nights.

It started on Sunday night.  Ben woke up screaming and crying because he had thrown up all over his sheets, blankets, stuffed animals, and floor.  The hubby and I went to work cleaning up the boy, the bed, and the floor and then got everyone back to sleep.  An hour later the same thing happened again.  And then a couple more times after that.

The next day he seemed to be feeling better.  He was eating small amounts of food and feeling fairly well.  That night I was very excited to go to bed and actually get some sleep.  But that didn't happen.  Ben threw up in the middle of the night again.  By the time everything was cleaned up and everyone was back in bed a huge thunderstorm rolled through our area.  It was so loud I just could not fall asleep.

The next day Ben was right as rain.  He ate breakfast, went to school, and even went to swim class at night.  Yay!  And that night he slept great.  But Tommy didn't.

It started at about 9:00 on Tuesday night and ended around 6:30 Wednesday morning.  Tommy puked round the clock just about every hour.  I think I may have gotten a half hour of sleep that night.

By Wednesday afternoon Tommy told me he was 100% better.  Great!

By Wedneday night all of the boys were overtired from being awakened by their brothers' puking for the last three nights.  We put them to bed and crossed our fingers.  I knew this night would be better.  I even allowed myself to have a drinky poo while watching Survivor.

Todd (who was starting to feel sick himself) and I attempted to catch up on our sleep and headed off to bed early.  Unfortunately, I was so paranoid someone was going to call me that I couldn't fall asleep.  Then someone called me.  Joey threw up four times last night.

I am running on fumes today.  I am sick of doing puke-soaked loads of laundry in the middle of the night.  I must get some sleep.  I hate vomit.  When will this end?  I hope Grace isn't next. Why must these vomit attacks always happen in the middle of the night?  Poor kids.  Such troopers.  My stomach is really starting to feel icky.  I'm exhausted.

I cry.

I whiny.

Holy Rip, Girl! That much vomiting would have had me joining the kids for sure and comparing notes then as to who had upchucked the biggest pile! I think for a while anyway I'd be handing each kid a glass of water with some baking soda (bicarbonate, ya know) to drink when getting ready for bed. My Mom always said that stuff would either settle an upset stomach one way or another -and the "another" meant it would bring up anything creating major waves down there. Usually worked too so there's an "old wives" remedy that does work and doesn't harm anything in the process either. Here's hoping you get some rest tonight but then, 3 down and Gracie's yet to go so maybe you should try to sneak some naptime in while Gracie gets hers in too.

I would cry and whiny too! I'm sorry. That's the worst... having sick children to take care of is bad and sad enough, but the middle of the night laundry and having to clean all that up... so. not. fun. I hope you're able to get some good rest, soon.

Poor girl, seems like you just dealt with vomit not too long ago! I agree, why does it always start during the night? Seems like all of our sicknesses do. No fun!! I hope you, Todd, and Grace escape it and I wish you ALL a peaceful nights sleep tonight!

You wanna hear something REALLY bad? One of my littles (who shall remain nameless to protect) just tried to make it to the bathroom and had his butt explode on the way to sitting down. I just got done cleaning up liquid poop off all my walls, floor, toilet, heating vent, EVERYTHING. It was everywhere. I've never seen anything like it in my entire life. It was the grossest thing I have EVER seen. So much for a nap while the kids are napping.
I'm gonna have nightmares about that one once I actually do get to sleep again.

So sorry. Wish I lived next door and could take one or two off your hands while you re-couped.

Tabor- Aww. Thanks. I'd take you up on it too because now I'm starting to feel sick too. The hubby is home from work so he has been helping out.

Oh, honey, I would cry and be whiny too. I hope everyone is all better now! I can't believe Grace is old enough to be talking like that already! Time flies by so fast.

That. Is. The. Worst. You deserve a NO VOMIT pass for the rest of your life!

Really hope no one else gets sick. And you get some sleep.

Holy Mary Mother and Joesph Kat that's horrible!! My thoughts, prayers, washing machine and cleaning supplies are yours! I wish I could drive on over and give you some relief. I promise it will get better. Now go make a pallet in the bath tub and just make the kids sleep in there.

There's not much worse than puke in the middle of teh night. I have ZERO patience in the middle of the night, and puke only makes things worse. Good luck to you and your littles.

No Puke Tonight!

HistoryGirl- Puke in the middle of the night is awful. But did you hear what I had to clean up yesterday? Read my comment above. That was the GROSSEST thing I have ever done or seen in my life. But at least it didn't happen in the middle of the night. ;)

I went to bed at 9 last night because I was feeling really sick too. No one woke me up vomiting, so that was good. I got a fairly good nights rest, and I feel better this morning. We'll see how the day goes. :)

Thanks for the sympathy everyone! I'll take it. ;)

It sounds like you deserve a good cry! That sounds awful. You've certainly got my sympathy.
Your Grace is so adorable. It sounds like she's talking quite a bit now! How did she grow up so fast?!

I'm so sorry. I know this won't help now but next time put the pukey kid in your room on the floor with a bucket to puke in. That is what we do! And once one person pukes no one eats until that person has stopped puking. It can't pass to the next person that way. Just some things we have done that have helped us greatly!

oh those days are exhausting. hope it's all passed by now and you've gotten some rest.

Tonya- My kids never do well on our floor. They prefer their own beds. I do have puke buckets for them and even cover their beds with other blankets on top so they can puke on those if they can't get to the bucket on time.
Also, each kid has been puking for two or three days straight so if we followed the no eating rule none of us would have eaten for the past week and a half. I don't think that would work around here. This virus has just been the worst!

Words To Live By

Be grateful for each new day.
A new day that you have never lived before.
Twenty-four new, fresh, unexplored hours to use usefully and profitably.
We can squander, neglect, or use them.
Life will be richer or poorer by the way we use today.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
some blunders and absurdities crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson
